What is the brightest red light for bikes?
 

Keep it real simple guys as that's me. Simple.

I ride the streets of Los Angeles on a electric powered tricycle. Its no mobility scooter but its not a motor vehicle either.

I need maximum visibility for oncoming cars from my rear.

Rechargable overnight.
It doesn't have to be made for bikes.
Blinking is best.

Please don't tell me about them LED lights like the Cherry Bomb. That doesn't cut it here.

I'm powered by a 24 volt system and have power available off my operating batteries but obviously don't want to severely draw power limiting my range. I'm open to suggestions on that subject but would prefer a seperate battery I can recharge each night.

The Dinotte lights are built for bikes. Alternatively, you might want to look into the red bull Nova strobes that emergency vehicles use.

Brightest you can buy, to my knowledge, is the Dinotte 400L, which puts out 300 lumens.

Nightlightning claim they have the brightest rear light on the market. Triple cree so should be crazy bright.
12-18V but they could probably do one that runs off 24V if you ask nicely.

Just get a motorcycle taillight off eBay.

I've seen a discussion about 24v systems on one of the lighting forums. I think any light that uses motor power is probably going to be electric bike specific because it makes no sense to use a battery that large just for a light when 12v will nicely power 3 leds in series. Dinotte is probably the best choice out there right now, but brightest equals expensive. I suspect that a Planet Bike Superflash will work very well on an electric bike, particularly if it is ridden at speed.

The brightest red light you can get may well be a red LED torch from DX.

I have been 1/2 mile behind a ladie's trike who has a Dinotte. It can be seen and is brighter than a cars tail lights or brake lights. This was in daylight at about 11:00 AM on Texas 35 out of Port Lavaca. There is no need for anything brighter.

I'm very appreciative to all of you taking the time to answer. I never would have found all those options on my own. After doing my homework on them I'll make the choice.

The DiNotte 400l is the only rear light I've ever used other than a cheap one from Wal-Mart like 10 years ago. It's insane how bright this thing is at night or even in the day.

Regarding the Dinotte 400L, fyi they also make a 140L that's cheaper and super bright. Frankly, I have a 140L and see absolutely no need for anything brighter.

I think Dinotte 400 is the brightest you can buy.
You can get pretty close to Dinotte brightness for much less money with a DX torch (or two) but it won't look as pretty.

I think too much is possible though. I would never strap a car headlight facing backwards and ride around like that because it would blind everybody. I've never seen a 400l in person but I suspect it is a little bit of overkill.

I have a $10 DX torch that probably is a close match to a Dinotte 140 in brightness and that one flirts with being too bright IMHO.

I think with 24V on tap a DIY option would be very easy.
