My Fenix L2D overheated

It must have. Although I have no idea when. It must have been at least a few months ago.

There is what looks like a brown cataract covering most of the yellow LED. I've been wondering why the output of this Fenix L2D Q5 seems so weak and sickly yellow colored. Here I've been, condemning Fenixes for being so weak, when it turns out mine isn't even working properly. Please disregard my previous posts against this light's output.

I'll post a pic when my camera is in the same place as my torch.

I did a brief search on the internets and this doesn't seem to be a normal thing to happen. I also haven't even been able to find a price on the replacement for the head of the light. I know one place offers a lifetime warranty, but honestly I don't even remember who I bought it from anymore.

did you get it wet perhaps?
or
maybe it was a made in china knock off imitation.

that is why i purchased mine (Fenix TK11 Black, R2 Edition) from a USA retailer
https://www.fenix-store.com/product_...roducts_id=650
they are actually a branch of https://www.4sevens.com/

this other shop... i do not trust, even though it claims to be USA

Try contacting the distributor for your country for a replacement.

A P7 has brighter maximum output, but it isn't significantly more efficient, so overheating is a still a problem. (And of course the light zooms through cells.)

If you want an L2D class light that can't overheat, buy a Kingpower K2 online. The head walls are enormously thick and provide much greater heat sinking. It's max is the same as a Kenix's "turbo" and unlike the Fenix, the K2 can keep this level of output going without getting dangerously hot - in fact it will only get mildly warm. There's no magic, just metal, but that's the best solution to overhot LEDs.

If you are using the light on a bike at night the cool air will keep pretty much all led's cool enough to not have an issue.. Most likely he just received a bad light.. I have used fenix and many P7's lights and they stay cool to the touch when you use them riding at night..
