From the beamshots I have seen, the beam on the MS light is much tighter than the P7 flashlights, so if you have it angled 20-40 feet in front of you, there is little chance at blinding drivers..

Having used P7's for over a year, they are ideal for riding at night and if you want to ride at decent speeds are by no means overkill.

are there any rechargeable p7 lights with an adjustable beam like a maglight? If there is then you could have everything in one package spotlight to flood to adjust to road conditions and probably blind less drivers.

That's kind of my thinking. A smallish helmet mounted light, and the main guns on the handlebar. We used to only dream of having these sorts of problems (still working on that first speeding ticket though)

While the P7 seems like a fantastic light, I already have about 400lm in the light that I got last year, and I already have a different helmet light (which I must admit that I rarely turn on).

update: tonight I noticed that it was only causing interference on the medium setting for some reason. On high, the HRM reads perfectly normally with no dropouts.

A good US seller of reasonably priced flashlights is Shining Beam, lots to choose from and fast shipper.

https://www.shiningbeam.com

I have personally used the L-mini flashlight as a helmet light with very good results.. When using with a p7, a Q5 led will get drowned out, but the helmet light is good for seeing into corners and directing towards drivers, so that you are better at being seen at night..

Shining Beam is great. He has very good quality control, and what you order is what you get, unlike DX where you never know what they will fill your order with. I've ordered from SB several times, and he even has extremely fast and cheap international shipping. In fact I just got a note today from the post office that my new PLI MC-E has arrived. It's to replace a DX light that only lasted 9 months.

I too have a MC-e light from SB and the form factor is small enough to consider using as a helmet light.. Looks like his new models are camo color.. The beam is very bright, a little tighter than the p7's that I have..

Jaa, they are kinda ugly. Oh well, I put an old inner-tube around all my lights for better grip. so I won't see it. The only thing that really bothers me about this, and many other lights, the MagicShine included, the the silly and utterly useless sharp 'assault crown'. I have no desire to play Rambo or SWAT team superstar, I just want to light my way......

Go to alibaba.com and do a search for P7 bicycle light. You'll get the manufacturer that makes all these Magicshine/Nova/other brand lights.
I guess everything is made in China these days. Anyone can be a seller of these lights, but you normally need to buy 150 or so of these to place an order. I'll bet they are selling for under 20 bucks each. Not a bad profit margin if you sell all of the 150 you buy.

There are many entries in there for essentially the same thing. Some of them talk about the specs for the battery, some of them don't. None that I have seen specify anything to do with a charger. I suppose if you were serious you would inquire and they would tell you what the price would be for the whole package.

You figure that some of the ones you get from the factory are going to be broken or DOA, so you essentially need to be prepared to just ship out replacements, I guess. If this is the wholesale price, you can afford to be generous and when people have problems just swap it out no questions asked...

I ordered a magic shine today. I am hoping that it will be able to replace my three maglites that I am currently using for my lights to go back and forth to work.

Just got mine... will post a review tonight after I try it out. Box (and light) were smaller than I expected. Battery is TINY compared to what I'm used to! (Battery for my Cygolite was easily double the size/weight for less light and half the runtime!)

Will definitely go for a nighttime ride tonight!

I did manage to shine it in my eyes from close range a couple times.... to echo what someone else said: "Holy S*#& that's bright!"

Thumbs up

Ok, the verdict is in....

I think my buddy summed it up best when I lit it up in his driveway: "Holy F@%^ that's bright!!!"

Or the guy that got behind me and honked, then swerved and passed, only for me to catch up at the next stoplight... where I tilted the beam up a tiny bit and put it on high-intensity strobe lighting up the inside of their car.... The light turns green, they take off, the guy in the back yelling: "F@#$ you AND your death star!!!"

I'm happy.

A couple cyclists I often see during my morning ride both ordered MagicShines for themselves after mistaking me for a motorcycle a few weeks ago. I saw them for the first time with their new lights yesterday, and from a distance the pair of MagicShines side by side looks like a car coming down the street. No driver will ever fail to spot you if you're using one of these things.

I ordered mine and it'll ship next week,
I just noticed they now have 5 modes? didn't they use to have 3 modes?
Modes: 5 Lighting Modes: High Mode@900 lumens > Mid Mode@500 lumens > Low Mode@200 lumens > Fast Blink > SOS Mode

run time on low has got to be 13 hours how nice is that!

The MS is a P7 emitter.. It just has a longer running power source, 4 - 18650 cells..

I just got mine and I know this will sound redundant but it's a great light and GeoManGear rocks. I'll withhold the details but GeoMan definately does customer service right.

Like others have said, the 'user interface' (no in-line switch, green light always on, etc, etc) could be better but I think I can manage tweaking all that stuff myself.

I've been following a lot of the threads here for a long time looking for the light that would do it all. I think I've finally found it. Thanks for all the great information folks!

Another thumbs up for Geoman. Great light. Unlike the DX ones (not sure if they fixed this yet), Geo's have much more thermal paste on them, and no stray aluminum filings. Also, Geo's have the long cable, so you can install the battery pack under your saddle if you want.

I had a guy bike past me and say "Showoff!" Even coming up on other bikers, they get out of your way when the see the path light up in front of them.
