Putting the battery pack in a stem bag will also help in keeping it dry.. I have an older Merckx that still has top tube braze ons, so I put mine in stem bag with no issues.. Still can fit phone, battery and larabar..

Looking for an easy fix that will work in the rain, but not submersion.... I used a piece of "cling wrap" folded over the battery using a rubber band to secure, then put that in the supplied pouch. I also have the connector to the light head protected from excess exposure to water.

I have been using the MS for a couple weeks. I ride only at night and this light is great. I like that you can adjust the whole light up of down easily... so on dark roads with no cars, I can raise it up a bit to see farther and on lit up streets with traffic I can point it down a little so as not to blind anybody.

I also use a Cateye up front in blinky mode, pointed slightly to the right... it doesn't add to my vision, but it may help be seen.

To round out the lights I use Planet Bikes Spok lights on my helmet... white in front pointed slightly down so I can read my computer and red pointed back. Finally a Super blinky red tail light.

I mounted the battery under my seat. I think Im going to wrap it in cling wrap and rubber band it like it was suggested here.

All in all, great light... I couldn't imagine trying to ride at night without one.

I've been eyeing several new head lights for the winter bike, and after reading some advice on this forum, I opted for the MS. I bought two MSs, which I run together, and what a difference over my single HID. I thought my single HID was a real car stopper, but two MSs together really grabs motorists' attention. So much was the difference in motorist attitude, that I let loose of the cash that I saved on buying the MS headlights, that I would have spent on another brand, and went and upgraded my tail light to a DiNotte 400R

Yep. That's my biggest beef with the MS so far. On balance, though, I love it, have bought two and would recommend them in a second.

My son had his battery pack die while riding in some marginally wet conditions. Fortunately, I was able to repair it by replacing an 0204, 100R resistor. I was lucky to find one at work since I don't know where you could find such a thing retail. Cost of the part was less than a penny but it saved a $40 battery pack.

Bottom line, be careful with the battery packs. They are NOT waterproof and can be destroyed if they get wet.

Some of those who bought the Magic Shine from DX are noting in the DX forums that their batteries have failed because they got wet in bad weather. I already had a water proof handlebar bag I wasn't using that is a perfect size for my AirZounds bottle and the Magic Shine battery pack so I pulled it out of storage and have put it to use. (It actually is placed over a smaller triangular handlebar bag for my Kryptonite cable lock.)

Just got mine from an HK dealer (not dx) in about 6 days. Nicely packaged without the MS branding & no instructions. The light & the battery have short cords with no extra extension cord included. Haven't done a direct comparison but it seems brighter then my L&M ARC HID. This is my first P7 light, but is the material that cover the diodes suppose to be soft like silicon & not a hard epoxy like my other LED's? All in all a great bang for the buck light especially if Paypal comes through with their $20 back promo making my cost only $55.

Btw, would anyone be interested in a non-assault crown & how much would you be willing to pay for one?

Oh & I was afraid the strobe setting would be seizure inducing, but it's more like my Planet Bike front flasher about 3/sec? I can see it being potentially disorientating because it flashes so bright.

Just put an order in for 2 Magic shines, and a helmet mount.
Everytime I get a goodie for my bike my wife always wants one as well, figure I'll head that one off at the pass and get them both. Plus when she isn't riding with me I can put hers on a helmet mount and go play. Now if only the Geoman website had extra battery packs in stock, that will be the next purchase. I can't wait for the new lights!

I leave the charger plugged in in the garage, and I just roll my bike over to it and plug it in every couple of days.

Somebody pointed out earlier that the engineers who designed the SOS mode didn't know morris code so I checked mine out. My Magicshine send dit dit dit dah dah dah dah repeatedly. It doesn' send a second dit dit dit.

Actually, this is great for a slow flash. Before learning this I was concerned that some older ham radio operator would come rushing to my aid.

I just found out about this light. My wife is wanting to get me a light for my bday, but I need to give her specifics to which model Magicshine light to buy and where to get it. I have seen geomangear.com. I am also wanting one that will just mount on my handlebars without any tinkering. Just take out of package and go. I had seen where some were modifying different lights, so I wanted to make sure that this wasn't needed with the Magicshine. Thanks.

The battery cord comes out of my pack and plugs into the headlamp cord right at my seat stays. I do park next to an outlet and just unplug the headlamp and plug in the charger.
btw, I have gotten my battery wet before with no ill effects. Probably just lucky though. You could probably drop one in a big mouthed water bottle and take it on and off pretty easily....as long as you don't need 2 bottles on a ride.

I got mine last night. There was enough room with the extension to put the batter pack in my seat bag. Would that be sufficeint, or would I need to get a ziploc bag and make it waterproof with tape, etc?

In any event, what works for me after a couple days is wrapping the light cord and extension cord around the stem, top tube, and seat post. I then keep the battery pack in my pannier and make the connection underneath the seat post. This allows for battery pack mobility and will keep the battery pack dry on wet days.

Has anyone tried sealing the seams on the battery pack with RTV silicone or shoe goo? Even dipping the whole pack in liquid vinyl, flexible conformal coating or something similar to seal it? It seems to me like there should be a number of solutions to sealing it that would add minimal bulk and weight so that it still fits the original bag.

I think I'll just put the battery in a baggie, stuff it back into the holder/bag and hope it works.
