How Notchy-Noisy is a SON?
Hi all,
I've only started using a SON about 150 kms back (less than a month)
and I know that there is some noise but today it seemed especially
noisy and I can feel the vibration up to my handlebar. The noise is
very similar to one of those gas-powered remote control planes but
slightly slower and not as loud. Normal?
Thanks.

Hi all,
Ok, this is going to be embarrassing both online and offline. Let me give a bit of background, I am using the SON on a new Bike Friday NWT and it does not come with a quick-release which is what I am most familiar with (19 years on another bike). I noticed that the right-most bolt kept loosening and I kept tightening it with my fingers. I just thought that I was missing something?
So, after posting I walked my bike over to a local bike shop and the guy simply used a 5mm Allen key on the left bolt, held on to the right bolt and tightened it. Wow! So simple!! They all must have thought that I had more money than brains!
Holding up the bike and spinning the front wheel now elicits a soft hum. No notchiness. I'll go out tomorrow morning again and give it a good spin.

They are very notchy if you turn the hub or wheel by hand due to the magnets interacting, but riding they are as smooth as any other hub.
