Not saying this applies to any of y'all, but relying on lights but dressing in dark colors is kind of, oh, I don't know... selected against. A brightly colored shirt goes a long way toward helping a motorist figure out what the hell he's seeing off in the distance. And a confused motorist is a dangerous motorist.

I have observed that at automobile speeds, bright colors are pretty useless in the dark. By that I mean, I drive up on walkers on the road wearing white, and next to them will be someone wearing black and I see them at about the same time. Your perception of color drops off with the amount of light. You need reflectors or lights in the dark to effectively be seen for an automobile to have enough planning time.

Bright colors during the day, reflectors at night. That's why those safety green Nathan reflectors are so cool. They work great both day and night.

I'm with cyccommute, if ya can't dazzle them (motorists) with your reflectivity, baffle them with lighting.

I agree. I have to be awfully close before the contrast between light-colored clothing and the background reaches the threshold where I notice it. One reflective legband would be far, far better than dressing in white from head to toe, as far as being noticable.
