new clickie for p7 flashlight
I just stepped into the world of P7 flashlights - just got one from dx the other day.
https://www.dealextreme.com/details.dx/sku.12060
First of all let me say that I'm incredibly impressed. Makes every other flashlight and bike light in the house look like a shadow. Not bad on delivery time either (3 weeks)
The only annoying thing is the multiple modes ... does anyone know whether it is possible to swap out the 5 mode switch for one with a memory function? I don't want to cycle through SOS and strobe mode just to get from high to low.
Just curious whether anyone else has modded their p7 to make it more convenient for use while riding. Cheers.

It is amazing the kind of firepower you can buy nowadays for less than $50.
I paid $60 or so for a Fenix L2D a year or so ago. I fine flashlight, which I still use, but nothing like the burner this one is.

Check with Dealextreme for accessories or options. I believe though that typically the control electronics are in the light head rather than the tailcap switch so no easy options changing is available. For bike headlight use either memory or minimal modes seems like the way to go.
I just bought the Olight M30 Triton light. It has two switches, one for on/off on the tail cap end and a second on the side of the tail cap for mode selection. Once a mode is selected the light stays in that mode until it is changed. Very handy IMO. Also very versatile as far as feeding as it can use 3 or 4 CR123, three RCR123, two 18500 or two 18650 batteries. The included body extender tube is needed for four CR123 batteries or two 18650 batteries use. It is listed as 700 Lumens rather than 900 but puts out a LOT of light.
Ihe Olight appears to be of excellent construction and has the greatest cooling fin area I have seen on a flashlight. It also has a lot of options available including filters, gun mounts, non tactical tail cap etc. Included are a foam lined storage/carrying case, a belt carrier, O ring grease and a diffuser filter. The best price I found was at Battery Junction. It cost a bit more than the Dealextreme lights but includes a better warranty as well as availability from an American dealer.

No. There is a chip in the head that controls the different modes. Some 2 mode lights use a resistor in the swith to controll the low setting.
It's suppossed to have memory. Leave it on for 5 or 10 seconds and it should come on in the last setting. The memory didn't work in mine. https://www.dealextreme.com/details.dx/sku.16092

I was hoping there might be a simple mod to control modes more conveniently. If someone does come up with something please post in this forum. Happy holidays

Or, you can bypass the circuit board and have a single (High) mode flashlight. That's what I did with mine when the circuit board stopped functioning properly. It's easy to do if you have a drill and a soldering iron.
