On the contrary, mine lights up pretty good... and provides much better visibility (both for seeing and being seen) than anything you can get for $10.

This is for Operator.
Superior? for who you?or is it that if anyone does like them you don't want them to enjoy it maybe that why you always try to put down what others people do a lot on this BF.I can say at time you do try to help out the best you can.You might want to go and read back the thread. As for mounting it on the rim you don't have to do it that way if you think about it lots of way to mount a generator light to a bicycle. Now don't take this the wrong way I'm not trying to hurt your feelings.I just think that now days people want to try and out do each other to much. Some of us do like the older looking stuff for bicycle and I am one of them. This light does put out pretty good light I should know I did have one long time ago.And I may even get this light again I think they work a lot better than you may think.I do a lot of research on line and this very light a lot of people think the way you do so you are not the only one thinking this way.But to the people that has this light they love it.With the bicycles of today you don't have to pedal as hard as you did back then to get a good light out put. With all that said I do enjoy reading stuff you talk about even if I don't like what all you say ever time. |
I still like this light no matter what. And to Doohickie I think your light looks pretty good on that bicycle and yes they do put out a pretty good light.

Again.... the one I pictured works better than anything else I had for less than $100. Except, of course, when I stop.

I loved my old school Soubitez generator light. Back in the day, it was the best I could find.
|
It is also perfectly possible to take many of the old lights and inexpensively convert them to LED for greater output for those with some familiarity with electronics who want more light from the old Dynamo headlights. One big advantage of most of the commercial LED dynamo lights is that they have a "Standlight" that gives some light when stopped. Sturmey Archer made a D cell battery holder, which held 3 or 4 cells, for the same purpose that was used by Raleigh and other British makers on some of their hub dynamo bikes.

Just to let all know I went ahead and order this light think it will look nice on my touring bicycle thank you very much lol...The way I look at it is you even like it or you hate it but thats life too.

I've had them, used them and ditched them. I just don't like the drag on the bike.
If you are using it to be period correct, make sure you have a real light available if needed. Such as really dark areas, traffic and etc. I live in a community where I ride regularly at night. The way people drive here, you need all the light you can put on the bike. Anything less would be suicidal. A generator just won't hack it. |
I don't know the amount of light you want to ride with but since you can get 600 lumens and more from a generator I think they are safe enough to ride in any kind of traffic and they won't quit on you at the worst time because you forgot to recharge the battery.
|
But like any other mechanical/electrical device they can and do fail.
|
They sure do but less often than I forget to recharge my batteries
