Just bought the Bullfrog for my son's bike. For the money, I ma VERY dissapointed in it's output. OK, so it has a bunch of flash patterns which, for a headlight are just plain annoying. Why would you need more than one blink pattern? As a motorist, when I see blinking headlights it is annoying as hell. As a be-seen light it's not bad but you would be hard pressed to use it to *see* your way home with.

For the money, the Planet Bike Blaze or a similarly-priced Cateye would do much better.

So, for that amount of money, what do you gain from the Bullfrog? OK, there's that silicone-y housing/band thing but really, I don't think it's worth that much more.

I'd take it back to the LBS I bought it from but since I pitched the packaging, I'm out of luck. But that is only my fault.

Sorry, just felt like venting a bit, and warning some people.

I've got one as a rear light, but never seriously considered it for a front. Works fine as a rear. For a proper front light you really do need something with a reflector on it to focus a decent beam.

I see a lot of roadies using these bullfrogs on their helmets and bikes in the morning here. They SUCK. Almost useless. I would rather have a reflective stripe than use a bullfrog.

Go with the Mars 3.0 ($20 Amazon) or PB Superflash. Those are hella bright and totally worth the money.

As a front light, it doesn't necc. need a reflector as it's an LED light. But the Planet Bike Blaze or old SuperSpot would EASILY outshine this for the same amount, or less money. Haven't tried it on the rear.

If I did, I'd go with the Planet Bike SuperFlash or ViewPoint FLashpoint Ultra. Both are about the same brightness and both are way cheaper. OK, no silicone wrap-mount thing but I don't think it's worth THAT much extra.

+1. I have both (PBSF on commuter, VPFU on back of helmet). I also use Dinotte's tail light (way outshines both of them) but the Dinotte obviously costs much more. I have Knog (whatever they call their cheap basic blinky) head and tail lights on my road bike for emergency/ minimal "be seen while I get home" use but do not depend on them as a primary or even secondary warning light.
