The spillage on the MS is considerable, but that's ok with me since I've had focused beams on some lights, and was overlooked by motorists crossing intersections from my left when using the focused beams. I do keep my MS beam just about 30 feet out in front and just to the right of me to be less annoying to oncoming motorists, but personally I'd much rather be somewhat annoying than completely overlooked.

Well this is sick, and I want one! :D Looking at it, it probably doesn't give exactly 1400 lumens, but I'll bet that it has some serious searing light otuput with those drivers. I'll have to think about it, seriously think about it. Wife will kill me haha!

Geoman, any way you can post pictures of it mounted on a bike?
Thanks! |

Look at B&M lights, like the IQ Fly. Or anything sold in Germany - by law, bike lights in Germany are required to have proper beam cutoffs.
I own a Cyo, and there's a *lot* of things to like about it. One issue I've had with it though is that it *really* has to be mounted down on the fork to be effective - mounted on the handlebars I either had to aim it down and it didn't have enough throw (in my opinion), or up and it hit oncoming people in the face with the brightest part of the light - not exactly what I was going for, lol. Mounted on the fork it's a lot better - I can get some good reach while the brightest part of the light only hits peoples midsection and avoids their face. It also puts nearly no light off to the sides...it's the best use of the limited power received from the dynamo I think, but riding outside of areas with ambient lighting I always felt slightly uncomfortable with the lack of side light, the Cyo took a helmet light to be 100% comfortable for me. The only high powered shaped beam light I know of is the Light & Motion Seca's. From what I've read they don't have a very good cutoff, but they do put a nice even distribution of light on the ground in front of you. |
I would too prefer the old MS improved: better beam, better mount, better strobe mode, etc. This triplet looks weird to me. It's a hack. I don't want it :( But the taillight news are intriguing.

ItsJustMe,
I'll warn you, the photos are a bit disappointing. It's circular in shape and there's a center LED and then much, much smaller LEDs around the perimeter of the circle (I count 9), which look to be mounted at enough of an angle to possibly provide some visibility from the side. What I find most disappointing is that the mounting system doesn't look very robust. (I wish manufactures would understand that not all of us want a seat post mounted rear light and provide better rear light mounting options.) Hopefully the performance belies the look. I hope that the vendors post some video because I'm not inclined to buy it without seeing video of it's performance. |
Honestly, I think I'm just going to stick with the Dinotte on the seatpost, a pair of superflashes angled out on either side of it, and a superflash on my helmet. Usually I only turn on the Dinotte and the light on my helmet.

I got mine 4-5 days ago. bought the 2300 package because I will be riding at night this summer and I want to be seen, used the 900 the other day but have only played with the 1400 because I don't have my real bike yet. Seems to be a pretty good set-up to me especially for the money. I do agree that the mounting system could be sturdier but it's alright by me so far
Thanks GeoMan |
