Garmin Edge 705 not recognizing newly installed sensor

I installed a new GSC 10 speed/cadence sensor on my tandem and it appears to be configured the same as on my single. But, I am unable to get my 705 to show speed or cadence when using it on my workstand and turning the pedals by hand.

Quick question also -- isn't speed calculated by the internal GPS? If so, then why is there a speed sensor included? I understand the cadence part of it.

Did you go into the Garmin menu and have it find/look for the new sensor? The speed sensor is for when you have it set up on a trainer or rollers in the house.

Weellll, it could also be useful when the GPS can't get a good lock on the satellites, as in a tree-canyon. Why would I want to use a GPS on a trainer/roller? I know where I am and I'm not going anywhere! (I know, I know, it's when you don't have a conventional bike computer in addition to the GPS.)

I had to press the reset button on the cadence sensor a few times before the GPS would pick it up. I don't know why, you'd think once would be enough. Might be worth a try, at least?

I have it working now -- just took 4 or 5 resets on sensor. Thanks everyone.
