Need help mounting Garmin 705 on 2008 Specialized Enduro stem

My lovely girlfriend bought me a Garmin 705 for my birthday. It's got everything! I want to mount it on my Specialized Enduro (2008) stem which is square. The Garmin fits perfectly in the space, but the plastic ties that tie the mount to the stem have to wrap around a square stem which makes them not very snug/stable. The mount that comes with it is for the handlebar or a tubular stem.

Has anyone here done this or found a good/better/best way to do it? Velcro? something else?

Thanks in advance.

thats a big stem.. maybe some beefier zip ties? So you can really crank down on them? Or somehow mount it to a flat section on your handle bar?

Congrats on the 705... i want one bad.

How about splitting a piece of PVC pipe? It will lay flat against the stem but give you a curved surface for the mount. It may also give the zip ties a better angle to get purchase against.

Take an old tube. Cut shims that fill in the gaps. If you don't already have one buy a zip tie tensioner tool and Good Quality zip ties. Between them you can snug it up as tight as needed.

Or, if the angle isn't too great to make reading the display unreadable just mount using the above method on the angled bars. The 705 doesn't care. You only care if you can't read the screen.
