BioLogic bike mount for iPhone by Dahon
 

Last February, I bought on Amazon.com a Iphone bike mount-Biologic brand (manufactured by Dahon) for my road bike. U.S. $ 53

When i tried to fix it on my byke, I realised the Universal bracket with Quick Release system is weak. It is not possible to screw the bracket tightly on our bike handlebar or stem.

The unit turn down every time I meet a vibration (holes or jumps). I even inserted a piece of tube rubber to make it sticker but did not really improve the grip.

Later on, after taping the bracket on the handlebar, I went for a ride and when I was driving down a hill at over 50km / h when I encountered a pothole. Under the shock, the case of my Biologic opened suddenly and my iPhone flew in the air and smashed on the road. No need to tell you my Iphone was seriously damaged!

I wrote to the Danhon and this is what they replied:

Hello, and thanks for contacting Dahon California. Dahon warranty is handled through the selling dealer. We do not currently have spare parts for the I Phone mount. We apologize for any inconvenience.
Sincerely, The Dahon California Team .

Then, I wrote to the distributor and he replied:

Hi,
I am sorry, we do not have any spare parts for this item. Please refer to the instruction booklet as you may have overlloked the correct tightening method...

I bought one of these, or one exactly the same with somebody else's brand on it available from the Apple store. I took it out of the packaging, put the phone in, mounted it on the bike, decided never to take it on the road, since, as you say, it doesn't seem safe. There's got to be a better way!

Holds the iPhone securely. HOWEVER, the plastic tab at the top needs to be all the way over the phone. Sometimes it catches on the little Al "lip" on the iPhone 3G and you think the mount is all the way on, but it isn't.

If anything, that looks worse! Of course I haven't seen it in real life, it might be fine, but I'd rather have something which completely enclosed the phone, and was weather proof - I live in Scotland! The Dahon one looked ideal, but it isn't.

I have the ram mount and find it to be an excellent mount. I use it all the time.

I have had the RAM, Bicio and Dahon mount. I had the same experience as the OP. I think the concept is good, but the construction is obviously not up to par. As for the bicio mount, I just didn't trust it and have read multiple reports of the tab breaking. I have had no problems with the RAM mount, but just wish it had certain features that the Dahon mount has

I don't understand the need to take your iPhone out on the road, unless you're using it as a gps or computer or something. If you just want it in case of an emergency, why not stick it in a jersey pocket?

I too have this mount. I haven't had any experience with it popping out. Of course I live in San Diego and wet weather is not a problem. Nor do I ride fast or run over potholes.

Evidently the iPhone 4 doesn't quite fit in the biologic mount, though it's not clear if it just rattles around, or whether it's because the camera is obscured (evidently taking movies from the mount is one of the advertised abilities).

However, they are doing a "re-design" for the iphone 4. Possibly this re-design might fix some of these problems.
