my rear light contraption

I ride year round - rain, light snow, hail, cold, hot, thunder storms - I'm in the dark a lot. Commute is 22 miles a day.
I used to use 1 tail light but got tired of seeing cars riding up on me in my mirror. I built a contraption that could hold 3 lights and believe me, when you have a lot of lights the cars pick you up quick and start moving over a lot earlier.

My last contraption to hold those lights wasn't too sturdy so I started thinking about it and remembered that I had a Topeak bar extender I wasn't using. I took it apart and rigged it onto my rear rack and works great. Ugly as hell but works great.

Looks like you have a sturdy setup - but is any of that getting in the way of a pannier? Those are all nice lights - but once you ride behind a Dinotte of Magic Shine you'll appreciate the limitatations of low-powered setups. You need more watts not more small lights

Here's an idea - mount a light on the seat rails - above any gear or rack bag

An old piece of garden hos serves as shaft for O-ring to attache - PB blinkie upside for on-off control.

By the way - I rode all night last night using 4xaa with MS tail light. Over ten hours in "blink mode-- and still going.....

yeah, but these lights I've had (the middle one is new) and I couldn't afford the Dinotte. I also use rechargeable batteries.

Maybe someday when I have more money. :)

No pannier problems at all. In the summer I mostly ride with a Topeak trunk bag and in the winter with Ortliebs.

Here's a few more contraptions - for instance a waterproof battery

And another

Here is a shot of a Magicshine Taillight on a cellar door at ten feet away after running on 4xAA batteries that have already been used on "blink" for over 14 hours.......
