Yeah, the ring is definitely a major pain in the butt. Bad, bad, bad design. I'm contemplating returning these. This is going to be a nightmare in Winter. And yeah, one is tighter than the other. Although, they're freaking bright!

A thought: since I'm using only one mode basically, perhaps I'll insert an inline switch and just leave the lights in the same mode all the time? I'd just need a waterproof switch.

Here is how I mounted it. I first bolted a short aluminum tube to the rack, then attached the two blinkies to to it:

I was in down state rural Illinois last night - using my dual MS tail light setup and have now experienced "screw you road rage. "

Several motorists on an open stretch of highway "elected" not to move over and pass at courteous (safe?) distance - even though they obviously were aware of non-motorized vehicle status from several hundred yards away.

Perhaps motorists will develop an "anti-I-notice-your-lights" tactic - much like my urge to give the finger to people yakking on phones while they drive....

I've noticed that at different times of my am commute. If I leave between 6:45 and about 7:20 I get little room when drivers pass, they pass me in areas where they shouldn't even though I'm taking the lane, I've had people get basically their back tire to me and start coming over forcing me to the side. About 7:30 and later it's a completely different crowd. I normally get lots of space, they are driving slower, will wait behind me until it's safe to pass.

The ring isn't that bad at all. Why are you changing modes in the middle of a ride anyway?

I don't change modes during the ride, but it's annoying enough just get to the right mode to start with and turn it off at the end of the ride. A button would be much more convenient.

I've gotten started and realized I forgot to turn the light on, and with other lights I just reach behind me and hit the switch. With the MS I have to just turn the ring a time or so and hope it's on now.

Also sometimes if the weather turns bad or I transition from pitch dark countryside to a lighted area, I would prefer to switch from steady to flashing mode.
