An alternative method to mount the MagicShine
 

Magicshine is a great light, but the o-ring mounting band is not the best. So, instead of the o-rings, I used several ouchless hair bands to mount the light. I used about 5 or 6 of the very small ones (about the size of a penny).

The downside is the light is hard to remove, but that's ok for me since I ride my bike from 5:45-7am on a bike trail near my home and leave the bike in the garage aftewards. I don't have to worry about locking the bike up and using the bands gives me the advantage of not having the light slip when i touch the button.

Hm, I don't have any trouble with the O rings. I do pinch the whole light when pressing the button, but I have always done that for all my lights, even the ones that were bolted hard to the bars. It's just part of the "be as gentle as possible to your equipment" method that my dad imparted to me back when I was growing up on the farm and we had absolutely NO money to replace anything that got broken. Holding the whole light and then squeezing to press a button, rather than just jabbing at it, is far less likely to break a mount. Same for computers, etc.

i do the same thing as well. The light seemed less susceptible to pointing down with the hair-ties than the o-ring to me.

I wrapped a small piece of old inner tube around the handle bar at the point that I mounted the light. Worked quite well at keeping stuff from drifting up or down as I rode.

You can also unscrew the mount from the light and use that hole to screw the light to another mounting bracket.

I did this for a couple of my things. I may do it with the MS too though it doesn't move much for me, and I actually want to be able to reaim it easily - I need it pointed higher or lower depending on where in my commute I am (smooth pavement, far ahead, moving fast, or potholed gravel - need to keep an eagle eye on the road closer to my wheel)

I achieved the same with electrical tape.

Good idea with the inner tube on the handle bars. I'll have to try that with my MS1400.
I came up with solid mounting, but it takes more work and a different brand's mount.
