Is dealextreme trustworthy? They haven't refunded me...

On sept. 17 I placed an order for some lights at www.dealextreme.com. Was immediately charged through paypal. About 5-6 days later, it remained "waiting for suppliers", so I canceled the order, and was shown the message that I should get refund on October 7. That's about 2 weeks time to get refund. Today, Oct. 8, it still shows "Pending Refund Authorization", and I have got no reply whatsoever after sending them inquires through both the website and email address. I know many of you ordered things from them, did any of you have cancellation and refund experience? Would appreciate sharing your experience.

Thanks. It was actually my credit card indirectly, through paypal--I do not have paypal account. Maybe I should call credit card company.

I've bought a couple of P7 led emitters from them and the service was great, if you don't get the refund soon call your credit card company. As an aside - open an account with PayPal. I use them for as many on-line purchases as I possibly can as they shield your credit card number from the merchant (my visa # was compromised when an on-line shop I used was hacked) and are really good at resolving problems like you're having. In fact I won't buy anything on eBay where I'm not covered by PayPal's buyer protection.

Thanks. I just called the credit card company. Actually I had thought of possibly placing future orders with dealextreme, now that is out of the question.

+1

They will give you a refund, but in my experience it takes forever. Oh, and they also lie about stock status and shipping times. The last order I placed was for an 'In Stock' item, and it took me two months to receive it.

I have found that some of the Hong Kong sellers on ebay with good feedback records normally sell the same items for 1-2 dollars more and get items to me in 7-10 days.. I even have one that immediately replaced a doa headlamp I bought, something that is near impossible for DE..

After my first light crapped out they sent me a replacement with a faulty button switch.

I want to send the 2nd light back, but its lose lose now, I'll be up to $120 for a light I should have got for $100 -and it still might be a dud.

First off, a wait of a week or 2 is totally par for the course at DX. Don't ever order from them and expect immediate shipment. I've NEVER EVER had them ship anything in less than 5 to 7 days, even if everything showed in stock. I've had orders ship as late as 8 weeks after ordering.

Second, on the 2 times that I've had defective merchandise, they've always shipped me replacement stuff, though in both cases I've had to remind them a couple of times. They don't seem to be particularly unethical, just forgetful. I suppose you could say untrustworthy if by that you mean you may have to remind them a few times.

When ordering from DX, EXPECT the stuff to take anywhere from 3 to 8 weeks to arrive. If you need it fast, go elsewhere. I order from DX because for some things they have good prices, and I kind of enjoy the long shipping delay. By the time stuff arrives, I forgot what I ordered and it's almost like sending myself Christmas presents!

I recently placed an order with them and just canceled it today for the fact that it still has not shipped, the tracking number isnt relevant to anything, and their customer support hasnt replied to my emails. I did use paypal and it was only $20 but still, screw that site.
ALL of their positive reviews were written by them. They also have a couple affiliate sites like DinoDirect.com, same GARBAGE.

Me too. I've ordered from them more than a dozen times and they've never shorted me on anything. They do take a VERY long time to ship, but I think everyone knows that. They have eventually shipped everything I've ever ordered. The SOONEST anything ever shows up is 3 weeks, typical is 3 to 5 weeks, on one occasion I had a few items take 8 or 9 weeks.

I really haven't had much trouble with anything I've gotten from them. It's all worked about as I expected and I haven't had a lot of trouble with the stuff breaking.

ok ok, then MOST positive reviews are by DX employees/reps/whatever theyre called. Point being their false reviews far outnumber the legitimate ones. Its terrible business and even poorer customer service. I was naive in utilizing their site.

The long delay would be problem for me (if I were to order something from them), because by the time it would arrive, I would likely have changed my mind, e.g. found something better elsewhere, or learned something bad about the product. Also, since their products seem to be of unreliable quality--according to many customers--, you'd have to wait for another 8 weeks for a replacement...

The service is fine for the price paid. Yes there is a lot of junk but its all at junk prices.
Could you link some of these false reviews? Most of the product reviews I see there are from customers and seem reasonably unbiased.

It's a great exercise at working on your patience. If you need it fast, don't order from DX. Personally I don't have any trouble with them, and I've really never had anything I bought from them break, and I've bought a fair amount of things from them. Worst case was one of the 18650 cells I bought from them was dead, they just shipped another 2 pack, so I wound up getting one for free.

I really don't see much evidence of fake reviews getting posted. Most reviews I see are legitimate enough looking.

If you're looking to get new car dealership customer service at Smitty's Used Cars and permanent garage sale, you probably are going to be disappointed. DX exists to pick stuff up off the streets of Honk Kong and cram it in an envelope with your address on it. If you need good customer service, buy it from a domestic seller who is doing the same thing but then marking up another 30% or so and keeping a domestic stock. He can afford to give you better CS. If you don't want to pay for excellent and rapid CS, don't complain when you don't get it.

Personally I don't know how DX can even stay in business with the shipping that they do for as little as they charge.

It's hard to call a seller ethical who keeps "forgetting" their customers' orders yet never forgets to charge their paypal/credit card accounts.

I've never experienced them forgetting orders. One time when they had to replace a LiIon cell, they asked if I was going to place another order soon so they could just toss the battery in there. I said I didn't know, and a couple of weeks later I emailed them to say I probably wasn't going to order again soon, so they shipped them then. It was probably actually my fault.

I find this thread of waiting 8 weeks is fine with me, just ridiculous.. Why deal with someone that holds orders for weeks before shipping. There are plenty of other sellers in HK that send items within 48 hours of payment.. I like EUPIX on ebay, had good success with them and on an order last month, received a DOA headlamp, emailed them, they emailed back that a replacement would be sent in 24 hours and it was..

My orders normally arrive in 7-10 days from date of payment from them: https://shop.ebay.com/eupix/m.html?_n...&_trksid=p4340

After I filed the claim with credit card company, now DX just informed me I'm being refunded, belatedly. Perhaps more such claims give them trouble?

That part's handled in the software. I get the impression that DX only has a few employees, so they're probably pretty swamped with the things the computer can't do automatically.

Sure, some of their products are junk, but I never buy >$25 stuff from them anyway, and mostly just the little $1-$5 items that would cost me 2-3 times as much locally. Their AG3 and LR44 batteries are a great buy for things that aren't critical; the cat-toy laser pointer costs more to put batteries in than it did to buy if I get them locally, but 100 of them for $5 at DX saves me a fortune, even if they do only last a third as long as Duracells.

FWIW, almost anything on their site can be found on eBay for similar prices. I generally need LR44 batteries in less than a month, for instance, and I can pick up a 50 pack of them on eBay for < $5. I kind of like DX because it's kind of a fun shopping site. If I want one specific thing I generally hit eBay.
