B&M Lyt Preliminary Inspection
I received the new B&M Lyt yesterday. The version bought includes standlight and sensor functions. Preliminary examination shows the following characteristics. I have nt installed it yet.
Relatively large diameter and short body, about 62mm in diameter and 45mm long.
The body is not totally sealed as there are visible openings into the light interior on the light bottom next to the mounting wire bail. If mounted on the fork crown I would want to have fenders on the bike to prevent tire spray from hitting the bottom of the light housing. Due to the openings and the shaped beam I would not recommend upside down mounting.
No internal reflector is used. The LED is mounted a bit above center in the rear of the housing and points at the front lens which has a quite complex series of shapes including different curves on the top and bottom parts of the outer lens surface.
The front lens includes a reflector portion in a ring around the center lens to meet German requirements for a front reflector on bikes whether they have lights fitted or not.
