Excell batteries, how good?

Several lights I bought (different brands) all use "Excell" AAA batteries. How does the life of Excell compare to Energizer and Duracell? If it's short-lived I may change to the name brand. (wonder if the manufacturers use it because it's long lasting or because it's cheap...)

get rechargeables if you need lights regularly.
