E-Werk disassembly
Does anyone know how to non-destructively open the case on a Busch & Muller E-Werk charger? Mine has a very irritating rattle inside.
It appears that the screw on the bottom just holds the mounting bracket on.

The rattle eventually caused a total failure of the unit. I opened it by squeezing the sides of the case in a vice. I appears to be glued shut but the case did not crack, it separated at the glue line.
The rattle was the large iron core inductor bouncing around because one of the rubber spacers was omitted at the factory. The magnet wire that broke has varnish insulation that has to be removed by scraping or heating before it can be soldered. The wire was soldered back to the board and the device works fine now. I used a silicon sealant/adhesive to rebond the case.
Moral: if your e-werk is rattling it will probably fail eventually.

Bad luck for me. I'm just very curious to see how complex or simple the circuit is.
Good you managed to repair it yourself. If ever you have to open it up again, plse think of me ;-)
