Best handlebar mount for Android phone?
I see a few of these on ebay but I'm not sure which is the best? I have the 'original' Droid phone and I"d like to be able to use the maps and tracking apps while riding but I'm not sure what mount to get. Anyone have mount they are happy with? Any mounts to avoid?
I tried a search but all I found was threads about apps not mounts. |
NONE.. Best way to make your phone into a brick, mounting on bars, too much vibration..

Why would this brick it? It bounces around in my pocket, and it bounces around in a car-dashboard mount. |
I'm sure it stresses the phone and could lead to premature failure but used my iPhone on a bar mount on my road bike for a few k miles no issues. Ride is rougher than on a mountain bike.

I got one of these a year ago and biked over 4000 miles with my droid mounted on my handlebars.
http://www.amzer.com/Amzer-Bicycle-Handlebar-Mount-P85507.htm It holds the droid very tight. It hasn't hurt my droid at all, still runs great. One thing i do recommend is looping your headphones around the base of it once, as the headphone jack on my droid is very tight and it can rip your phone out of the mount if you jerk the cord very hard accidentally. I use my droid to track my route, listen to music and follow maps when needed, works great. |
I keep working on my own home grown android mount. My latest setup uses an old handlebar mount for a Polar HRM watch with liberal amounts of industrial strength velcro on the stem, inside radius of the rubber, top of the rubber mount, back of the phone, upper right corner of the phone, and lower left corner of the bike computer. The result is stable enough for me. It takes all the road shock I dish out with just enough wobble to act as a shock absorber.
That said, I won't be cancelling my phone insurance anytime soon. https://lh6.googleusercontent.com/_m...8/CIMG3783.JPGhttps://lh5.googleusercontent.com/_m...8/CIMG3784.JPGhttps://lh6.googleusercontent.com/_m...8/CIMG3785.JPG |
Universal bike gadget holder:
http://www.thinkgeek.com/gadgets/tra...cj&ref=&CJURL= I bought one. It works good. Only issue was the handlebar mount needed some old rubber inner tube wrapped around the bar to keep the cinched-on gadget holder tight on the bars. |
The Amzer one does not work well with Droid X without some minor modifications. Even with the mods I worry about it flopping out and I use a rubber band to keep it in place.

Goop and Duct tape  whats wrong with your pocket ?
..LOOK OUT ! :trainwreck: I suggest a handlebar bag , either put it inside and close the lid, The Ortlieb Plus fabric handlebar bag adds a pocket for cell phones on the outside.. |
The Amzer i linked is specifically meant for the Droid and secures it perfectly. The Droid X has different dimensions and curves so i would assume it doesnt fit right.
Here is a photo of an original droid mounted on my bike https://lh3.googleusercontent.com/_h...0/P1000808.JPG |

Look up the Ram Mount PD3U cradle. It is their most secure cradle I've tried to date. I use it on my scooter with my Galaxy Note.

I need to get a mount for my Samsung Galaxy Note 3 Smartphone .... I've looked at numerous mounts, but all have negative feedback. I don't mind paying more to protect my Note 3, which I have already invested over $900.00 .....

I lean toward some of the earlier comments about concern for limited usability and the concern for shock. I have stayed away from any rigid mounts for that reason. I recently bought one of these bags.
http://bikeforums.net/attachment.php...hmentid=357419 Its adequate. Is water resistant and absorbs shock. The standard model (which I bought) is a snug fit for a Nexus 4 (similar size to S3) I plan to buy a larger version so that I can leave the case on my phone. Here is a link to a large version:http://www.amazon.com/AGPtek%C2%AE-R...ef=pd_sbs_sg_4 |
This one is pretty cheap and works pretty well: http://banjobrothers.com/products/cu...p-phone-pouch/
Attaches with Velcro, so it is easy to remove when you don't want to use it. http://banjobrothers.com/files/banjo...RFde6h8NeX.jpg |

Get whatever case you want and then the Quadlock mount. http://www.quadlockcase.com
Depending on the phone, they might have a prepackaged solution. But if not, then get any case you want and add this to the back of it: http://www.quadlockcase.com/collecti...versal-adapter And here's the mount itself: http://www.quadlockcase.com/collecti...-bar-mount-pro I've used one of these for two years with an iPhone for thousands of miles including over dirt tracks (mtg) and it's been super solid. And, no, it doesn't hurt your phone as some would suggest. Our family are avid cyclists. We have four of these with thousands of miles on them and no problems. I've been mounting phones on bicycles and motorcycles for years. Never had a failure of a phone. Ever. I've used RAM mounts, bags.
