Looking for a particular kind of cable lock.
 

My MTB spends a significant percentage of its time in the bed of my ok-its-not-a-real-truck Ridgeline. I'm looking for a combination cable lock to attach it to the bed tie-down points.

My problem is that most of the medium to large combination cable locks have large plastic ends on them surrounding the actual hasp, which are too big to fit through the ~3/4" tiedown holes. Specifically, the OnGuard Akita series end is too big to fit, although the 10mm and 12mm cables and the actual steel locking end fit fine.

So I'm hoping someone has experience with a medium/large cable lock that has more of the traditional sleeved end like the keyed locks seem to. Size/weight of the cable is not an issue; this is to live with the truck, not be carried on the bike. Appreciate it!

Edit: Maybe a better alternative would be a noose-type chain like the New York Noose, and a separate combo padlock? A little more cumbersome, but it seems they are considered a lot more secure, and should fit the tiedown point well.

I travel to trail with one or more bikes in the bed of my pickup truck. I use a regular but largest cable I can find that has no lock. I was able to slip my ulock into the tie down and wrap the cable around the bikes and the through the ulock in the tie down.

For more security, I also ulock the two bikes together so that a crook cannot just cut a cable and ride off. They will also have to cut the ulock. If it is a single bike, I ulock the wheel to the frame. It may not stop them from stealing it but they will either have to load it into a car or carry the bike on foot unless they also cut the lock on the bike.

see if a u-bolt lock can be routed through the tie down then use a heavy covered chain to connect to wheels.

Would the Kryptonite Modulus system work? I have only seen their advertising and not any outside reviews, but this looks like it has some flexibility for different uses:

It would except that it's not a combination lock. I'm using something similar currently. I think what I'm going with is a nice heavy-duty cable (15mm), with a shrouded-shackle combination lock. I just have to make sure there is enough clearance for the shackle before I order it. Since it will live in the truck I'm not overly concerned about weight.

You can try a thick steel ring that will fit in your tie down and weld the joint together. Then you can use any size cable lock you want.

True, but that interferes with the other uses for the tie-down. Here's what I'm going with:

Longer than I need, but I can use it to secure other items on other occasions. This about meets my desired level of deterrence, I understand it's not a theft-proof system.
