Well, one can get three Hotshots for $100 and with 6 Watts power it would be a much better configuration only for $20 extra. Actually, it would be as bright as two Dinottes for less than half the price...

That's true, but there goes that damn side lighting thing I like to have...note, I said I like to have.

For side lighting, also consider that yellow Fibre Flare I mentioned. It's really bright, omnidirectional, and has a lot of illuminated surface area to see.

That is an interesting concept, I wish I could see a better night time video of it working so we could determine just how bright it is. It appears on the web sight that it could be brighter, but the web site may not be doing it justice. I did see a You Tube film on it and it appears more like a glowing stick rather then a bright emitting stick, but it could be useful for side lighting but I wouldn't use it to replace my main rear or my front flasher.

What is the DS500? The video didn't show a the fiber flare from what I could tell.

Well, it proves that the dedicated side light capability only make sense for dim lights. For high-powered ones, it's already built in.

Ah... well, it's not a production light. "DS-500" stands for DesignShine-500 lumens. It's a custom design. First 30 lights were kind of a market test. The idea for future production of a larger run is currently being entertained.

I've got a Blackburn Mars 3.0 on the seatpost, a Bell 0.5 watt butterfly light on the left chain stay, and a PDW Tailbot on the rear fender. I can move the Blackburn from the SP to my rack bag when I use the bag.
I looked at he Cateye Rapid 3 last time I was at LBS, but I think I'll wait till I can get a Radbot to replace the Blackburn.

There is a light hacking forum somewhere, I forget what it's called and i didn't earmark it, but there was a lot of good info there.
It's not the wattage that counts, it's the lumens.
