Best all around lighting system
 

I know this has been describe many times.

What products of lights would be best.

These are my needs. Plan to do a 24 hour solo mtb race next year so i will need a lighting system.

Something that can be switched over to my mtb and road bike.

Looking for a helmet mounted light or lights as well as handle bar types as well.

one that is good for all weather, temperature and is durable.
as well has a long battery power, so something that can last at least 8 hours at full throttle or what ever is available.

what product lines do you all recommend best. thanks

For mountain biking, I'd suggest a DiNotte 1200+ and spare battery packs for the handlebar. The light system's under 1 pound complete, nice floody beam, excellent waterproof connector, easy to operate.

You didn't mention price range so I'm going to take the low price road since the other guy went the higher route. I happen to like Cygolite products, I think they offer the best quality lighting products at a lower overall cost. They have a wide range of prices so it depends on how far you want to go. One product I really like is the Expilion 400 rechargeable light, it puts out up to 400 lumens and there is no external battery to mess with! You can also buy a second battery and have one charged and another charging. It will run for 2 hours on high to 24 hours on a flashing mode, and it cost about $140 maybe less if you shop. See: http://www.cygolite.com/products/expilion400.html And if your really got the money they make another self contained battery light that puts out a blinding 600 Lumens but it will set you back about $260.

For the rear Cygolite also makes a great 2 watt LED rear tail light called the Hotshot, it too is rechargeable and is extremely bright, this light can easily be seen in broad daylight. It will burn for about 300 hours on low power flash mode to maybe 100 hours on high flash. It cost about $40.

For the helmet you want something less bulky, you could go with the Cygolite Expilion 170 for that.

You have a lot of options and a lot of different manufactures so you could go crazy selecting the right light, but if you stay with major brands you won't go wrong. I just mentioned Cygolite because I still have a 18 year old Cygolite Metro that was their cheapest ($45) headlight with a 13 watt dual beam halogens and it still works after heavy use and rain after all those years. I only in the past 2 years switched to a brighter light and first got the Expilion 350 then switched to the MityCross 480 so my wife could use the other. I never had any problems with any of their lights. Cygolite as a huge array of lights with a large span of prices.
