Tired Of Losing Bike Accessaries........
 

In the last month I lost a nice Blaze headlight, a Mars 4 rear light and lost my computer. I'm not sure if I can just replace the "head" portion on my wireless computer? ANyways, anyone else ever lose bike items like this? It get frustrating.

How did you lose them? Did they fall off your bike?

I've never lost a headlight or computer. If they're not on my bike, they're in a box on the workbench in my garage.

I have only lost one tail light and it was when I ran off the road around a sharp downhill curve. That's it in 25 years of riding.

Due to the constant vibration it is also really important to check all mounts regularly.

I use zip ties if I am able to add some additional protection.

I had a computer jump off its mount and the display cracked :(. Also had a light jump off a couple of times (the infamous NR Cherrybomb clip), but was able to recover that one in working condition.

Where do you ride? I could use some more bike accessories.

How did you lose them? Theft? I really don't think I've lost anything while riding, yet.

I USED to lose rear lights, but it was from the clip breaking off when mounted to the seat bag. Turns out the issue was the vibrations and being soft-mounted, perhaps aggravated by the clip baking in the sun during rides. After mounting then on the seat stays (solid mount), no more lost lights (3 yrs and counting).

Now, any light that I might clip to the seat bag stays in the bag until dusk.

Trips on my mountain bike usually involve both on and off road travel. I've had several rear blinkies either fall off or come apart from riding off-road. In an ideal world, makers of accessories would publish specifications for shock and vibration resistance. I'm sure there must be MIL, ANSI, or ISO specifications that would be applicable.

My edge 305 fell off the mount and got ran over by a truck. Garmin replaced that one for free. Next Edge fell off the mount and into the storm drain. Dept of public works dug it out the next day. I bought a new mount and now zip tie my edge and it has yet to fall off.

@OP - lost while riding or lost while parked?

when my bike is parked, just about everything that can come off without tools goes into a small bag. i've never lost anything.

for most wireless computers i've seen, you can buy just a head, but it's usually only $5-10 cheaper than a complete kit.

If you attatch a tail light to your trunk bag by hooking the light onto a fabric loop, is there a way to secure it better?

depends on the light and what you're hooking it to. usually a zip-tie will do the trick.

but... when you put a light on a bag like that it'll flop around and never stay aimed properly. most modern tail lights have very tightly focused beams, and if they're not properly aimed at traffic behind you then you're not getting your money's worth (read: they can't see you as well as you think they can).

I was thinking of the Planet bike superflash that has a mounting hook. Would a ziptie work for it?

2- how creative are you?
3- is it cheating to use glue?

I found a nice solution: my daughter's hair thingy (like a rubber band with fabric covering) secures the light onto my trunk bag's fabric loop nicely.
