Lighting with Flashlights
 

So after reading this forum I've come to the decision I need flashlights and a mount instead of 'bike lights'.

The lights purpose to to help me see at night (and of course be seen)

I'm currently looking at maybe 2x of

I've seen numerous different things about everyones favorite light set up etc etc.

How are those lights for night riding in an urban area (unsure of street light quality)

Whats a good mounting option? I've seen the u-lock mount (forget what it was called) and that seemed like a good option. Any others I should consider?

Is there another set of lights comparable? I'm trying to keep this on a budget so I want bang for the buck

The mounts are the Twofish Lockblock. I'll let others more knowledgeable chime in about the light.

I use the lockblock style mounts and they work well for me. I found some generic copies on ebay, and they are fine.

That looks like a nice light and if it's really 820 lumens you will be amazed at how much light it will throw out. You'll also need some 18650 batteries and a charger. You can find recommendations here for those.

The nice thing about going with the drop-in lights is that when the inevitable next generation lights come out, you can easily upgrade without starting over. Good luck and ride safely.

Shining Beam S-Mini XM-L light makes an excellent bike light ...
 

The Shining Beam S-Mini is small and light and puts out plenty of light with very good run times .

It has 3 useful modes (hi, med, low), last mode memory and runs on 18650 batteries (1). I'd get a couple of Redline or AW (i.e., Panasonic re-branded) 3100ma or 2900ma batteries (candlepowerforum.com market page has some,...or you can find them on ebay) .

The light you are looking at is probably a fine light, ....but I think its a little heavy and would be harder to work with . A heavier light on the helmet makes the helmet tip to the back or front and is noticeable to the neck strain,....and if mounted on the bars, the heavier light is harder to lock in a position .

TwoFish Lock-block works well for mounting the light to either the bars or helmet ..., 4Sevens.com sells them,...ebay, Amazon and others ...

Go for the slightly larger Cygoblock from Two Fish. It holds 18650 lights better.
