I need a high output self contained head light for my road bike.

I have a gift certificate at Performance and therefore would like to purchase a light they stock however I would be willing to purchase elsewhere if a different light is measurably better.

I am looking at:

1) NiteRider MiNewt.600 Cordless LED

2)Lezyne Super Drive 450 LED

Your thoughts and suggestions would be appreciated

I bought a NiteRider MiNewt 600 about two months ago. It turned out to be brighter than my original MagicShine. Liked it so much that I bought another one. Cost: $102 and $105 from ModernBikes.com

Anyone have the Lezyne it looks more compact and Lezyne is known for quality.

look at mtbr.com for their light reviews. the superdrive and the mineewt end up pretty equal, the superdrive has a better bar clamp from what i've read.

I have a carbon bar that is a little wider than a typical bar.

that doesn't matter, it's just that lezyne's clamp is more secure

Great now already to purchase the Lezyne and it out of stock at Performance.

Lug Steel

I have the Lezyne Superdrive and love it.
I commute 100 miles per week and only charge it overnight once a week
I use it 45 minutes in the dark a.m. on low-solid and then 45 minutes on flashing on the way home in the afternoon.
I have noticed a huge improvement over my previous 1w headlight, I can see the road and cars don't pull out in front of me as much at intersections.
A much better option to the bulky Magicshine setup I was considering.

Mininewt 600 > Lezyne Superdrive light-wise. Also, check out Surfas True 500 and the new Cygolite Expilion 500. Some good reviews:

I would rather have a stronger light that I can choose to run at a lower level of brightness than a weaker light that I can't run at a higher level of brightness.

A bit more expensive but I really like my Exposure Lights Diablo. Small and light and bright enough for all my needs now that the snow is everywhere. Run it helmetmounted on low to and from work.
