SR Dynamo hubs - has anyone used them?
 

I think this is the best place to post this, but am unsure where most dynamo hub users are.

Has anyone used any of the SR SunTour dynamo hubs? There is not a whole ton of information on them (in English at least), but I have an opportunity to pick one up for $60. I've never seen them and want to hear experiences with the, compared to the Sram i-Light or Shimano ones.

at that price, I'd get a sanyo for $40. I am not sure what the cross-pollination is between that and some of the other hubs, but I guess the performance is no better than the Sanyo.

Yeah you are probably right. I do hate a lot of that SR Suntour stuff...

Have you used a Sanyo? how does it stack against Shimano? I am not against using the Sanyo, but if I am going to build wheels on nice rims for a nice bike, might as well get a higher quality hub.

No relation to the SunTour of yesteryear. Only in name... Horrible quality stuff IMO.

There are Shimano DH-3N72s on the 'Bay for $58 free shipping right now. Much better bet than an unknown dynamo hub. The hub shell on that Suntour looks really similar to the Sanyo though.

that's a good deal on the Shimano. Head and shoulders above anything else you can get for that price

I've got a sanyo and shimano alfine. The shimano is lighter, was easier to build into a wheel, and cost 60 bucks more. The sanyo was cheap, is heavy, and was a bit of pain to build (it doesn't spin long). I'm still building the bike the Shimano is going into, so I don't know what the performance is like. The Sanyo is in my commuter, and I ride with the lights on always. I'm not able to tell if the lights are on or not, unless I can see the beams. There's a tiny bit of vibration at about 18 or 19 miles an hour that goes away by 20.

True, but I am looking for something in 32 hole.

Best value point is probably the Shimano 3n80

What's a fair price for having a wheel spoked for a dynamo?

Shouldn't cost any more than a regular wheel build.
