Light disables Wireless Signal
While riding into darkness with a Nite Rider MiNewt 600 Cordless, I noticed that after the light was activated, I lost the signal to my heart monitor (Sigma PC 3) and computer (Shimano Flightdeck). Not all that concerned about the heart monitor since I wouldn't be able to see it in the dark, but I don't like losing the accumulated mileage on the computer. The computer signal was erratic but mostly not registering as I tried lower out settings. After about 4-5 miles, the computer started recording again, but only on the high setting. The batteries are still strong enough during unlighted operation but could be due for replacement in both (transmitters) devices. Would a stronger signal help? Any constructive thoughts/suggestions please???

my cateye micro wireless computer does the same thing when my magicshine is on. changing batteries in the sender and computer made no difference.

That's normal.
Wireless computers are Heavier than wired bigger than wired cost more than wired Use more batteries than wired use the batteries faster than wired Work worse than wired. All kinds of things can cause interference. I've had two just die completely after a year, and after a couple of years. I have a working cheap wired that I bought in 1994 or 95. I'm running six wired on different bikes one with 9,550 miles and a couple over 6,000. A couple over 3,000. Are you seeing a trend? :) |
One solution is to use ANT+ wireless computers and wheel/heart-rate senders. These are immune to interference from the regulation circuity in LED lights, among other things.

I am running two Torch Flashlights up front on my bike. Cradled right in the middle is a Cateye Vectra. Working perfectly.

Thanks for all the feedback. I have asked my LBS to contact their Nite Rider rep to see what comments they have. I did hear a suggestion about using the helmet mount instead. Gave it a test today and had no disruption. It may be the only viable resolution.
