Is this light suitable for suburban/city streets or is it better suited for trail riding.

I understand it's bright, but is it a problem with blinding oncoming cars ?

I've used it for both. I have an original MS900 at home and a couple of the new XM-L Magic Shines at work. I've trail ridden, ridden on well-lit streets, and ridden down dark alleys. They work well for any circumstance I've ridden in. I don't do any X-game style riding (freeride, downhill, dirt jump, etc) so I can't speak for those disciplines.

I like the o-ring mount. If I am riding on a sidewalk against traffic, I'll aim it down at the sidewalk directly in front of my front tire, usually changing it to the flash mode. With the o-ring mount, I just tip it forward, and once I need it back to level, I tilt it back. If you're in the market for a decent light with good output, I'd take a good look at this light (from a reputable dealer, of course).

If this is part of your criteria for choosing a bicycle light there is no use is discussing any products.

Your "blinding cars" comment indicates you have little ability to understand proper usage of lighting equipment. Yes many lights can "blind cars" - some do not.

This has a much better mount. I bought the light head after my original 900 lumen Magicshine started to fail, and both the mount and light head are way better than the original.

I think "better" is your opinion. As for me, I prefer the original o-ring mount.

It's very stable (with a wrap of rubberized/vulcanized electrical tape on the handlebars underneath the light) and easy to tip down for on-coming traffic if needed. I would not want any other mount.

I bet I've had an o-ring mounted MS light on my bars for close to 1000 hrs of riding in all conditions day and night. It's the perfect light mount for me.

Better for me means more stable/less likely to move after I've aimed the light with the ability to tip the light if needed. The mount in my link does this for me. Worse is when the light keeps moving downwards after I've aimed it. The rubber o ring mount did this for me. It sounds like we both got what we wanted, but with different mounts.

That's really too bad about Geomangear. They did me well. I've always checked them out for lights. I did skip the battery fiasco and waited until it was resolved. Sorry to see them go.

I thought at the time that GeoMan was doing the battery recall that it was kind of a silly thing for them to do, and I didn't expect them to be able to stay in business. From reading what's on their page, they were apparently counting on everyone else in the industry stepping up and doing the same thing and therefore being forced to raise their prices as a result.

It's beyond me how anyone could make such a business decision. It's very naive to think that everyone in the industry is going to participate in a voluntary unilateral recall when there really wasn't even much noise about it from consumers.

IMO they should have found or designed a replacement battery and offered them for a reduced cost to previous buyers. I can't even fathom why they thought it was a retailer's responsibility to replace defective (*) parts, that's the manufacturer's job. A good retailer will facilitate that, perhaps running the recall effort in the US for the manufacturer and bulk shipping or proving destruction of returned batteries, but not to pay for it themselves.

(*) many of the batteries weren't even defective. They replaced mine, and there really wasn't anything wrong with it. I was still getting good runtime out of it when I returned it.
