Best budget Cam? for recording drivers trying to kill me...
I am exhausted by bad drivers, dangerous drivers and the pathological. I want cams - preferably two, one forward and one back. Small, cheap (likely to get stolen) and with enough resolution to catch the tags and if possible the brand of beer can thrown at me. I live in the middle of nowhere Colorado, but the drivers just seem to run everyone over. We have had high profile deaths, Ive been run off the road twice this year, two close friends getting hit and put in plaster has made me decide to film my rides just in case. I want as cheap as possible (how about the MD80 on ebay for $15 each?)
What are your suggestions? |
From what reserch Ive done the MD80 only has 1hour of recording time and a 63 degree angle. Any others? On the plus it is only $15 delivered.

Recording time is limited by (1) battery life, (2) capacity of memory card. The battery charges via a standard mini-USB jack, so it may be possible to power it via an external battery pack. The max capacity microSD card it'll take is 16 GB.

I was going to suggest if you are even minmally adept at electronics, or know someone who is, to build a MintyBoost kit (http://www.adafruit.com/category/10 or https://www.sparkfun.com/products/10094), but at $2/unit, you could buy >10 of what Telly suggested. Probably come out ahead even if the ebay unit falls apart after a month of use.

KS1g, I've been using this charger for over six month now without having it fall apart, although you have to be extra careful not to have the switch turn to the flashlight function when transporting it, otherwise it will eat up the batteries at a faster rate.

Thanks - I am very handy with the ole soldering iron (I make my own LED bike lights) However im going to stick to the $2 ebay charger for this and have even ordered a $12 MD80. I was hoping someone might have a suggestion for another mini cam? The MD80 only has an angle of view around 65 degrees which s fine for a rear view, but a bit narrow for the front, any suggestions?
Thank you everyone for your help! |
