Dedicated front flasher?

I'm still researching my next 'to see by' light, but I could also use a blinky up front. Prefer something inexpensive and noticeable- without inducing seizures. My current front (and only) has SOS, which is a bit too slow for my taste, and a seizure inducing rapid flash mode. I'd like something that is somewhere in the middle.

Ideas?

Not to mention signaling distress when not in need is generally frowned upon and often illegal. However, nowadays, I doubt anybody takes SOS seriously anyway.

I bought a handful of these recently from DealExtreme:

Very bright be-seen light with a choice of flashing patterns. I don't know how durable they will turn out to be, but for under $5, I can't go wrong.

I've looked at some reviews of the Knog Blinder on youtube. It has a decent flash pattern. Unfortunately, it appears to mount to the bars, not sure if I could put it on the head tube or not. The Serfas Thunderbolt looks like it would right at home on a fork blade.

NiteFlux reportedly have a new version of their White Zone 5 front flasher coming out soon -- but perhaps not inexpensive.

Don't get any of the cheapies like Blackburn. They work fine for about 3 weeks and then the batteries are dead. That wouldn't be problem except they use 2 - 2032's at about $2 each!

You use a battery powered device and then complain that the batteries go dead?

Point taken! It's that these use batts so quickly AND there aren't rechargable option, unless of course one uses a generator - I'm not that cool

Blackburn and Knog are just a few of the companies producing small form lights that use those batteries. They ALSO make others models that are larger but will take AA or AAA batteries including rechargables. If battery cost and run times are a priority feature to you, suggest you look into things a little more next time BEFORE making a purchase. That info is usually provided on the packaging.
