Is the Cygolite Steady Pulse flash pattern a worthwhile feature?
 

Now that the end of daylight savings time has snuck up on me once again, I'm considering adding an additional headlight. I'm deciding on one of the self contained, USB rechargeable lights that will be used as a helmet mounted light at dusk or full time, or will be bar mounted alongside with my current light, an MG PLI MC-E flashlight. A helmet mounted flasher with a couple hundred lumens for commuting at dusk seems like a good improvement to my visibility.

Can the Cygolite owners give me an opinion of the Steady Pulse and Day flash modes? Which brightness levels do they use and what are the patterns/rates? Is the Steady Pulse any more visible than a standard on/off pattern?

If anyone has a link to a video showing these that would be great as well. I've only found a vid of an Expilion 350 and Hotshot flashing side by side that doesn't do a good job of displaying either light.

Don't have a video or pics of the flashing, but I am always on flashing/blinky during daytime. You can see me coming a mile away, or if it is flat even further. I am using 1000+ lights on flashing.. The reason I use heavy lums is because I am out in the ball out knock down drag out traffic!! :) Car were passing me at 50mph+ and within a foot.. Now with the blinkies, not so close, they give me way..

IMO, blinky doing the day is a good thing. I wouldn't go without it, unless I am on a group ride or on a trail/MUP..

Not exactly sure what you're asking, but I have and Expilion 700 and it has three flash modes. A very bright double flash strobe, a steady medium beam that flashes dim, and SOS. The strobe is highly visible in the daytime. The steady medium beam is meant to be a compromise between providing light to ride by while being more conspicuous. I only really use steady high or boost at night and the strobe during the day or in brightly lit areas at night. I don't use SOS as I'm not in distress.

No hands on experience with those units myself but general opinion in this forum seems to be that at least one blinkie during the day is a good idea. Which since headlight modulation on motorcycles seems to work - makes sense to me.

And since both the brightness and flash duration on those models are user definable - THATS a feature I'd think is worth paying for.
