Reducing strobe rate of torches

Hi all,

I have a few torches with very high strobe rates. Is there an easy way to reduce this down to something less epilepsy inducing?

Thanks

Daven

I think there is a capacitor that discharges at a certain rate,
but I dont think you can replace that in a small circuit-board.

turn off the strobe, use the steady ON mode, instead.

Strobes are not a legal bicycle light in Germany. [AFAIK]

It's not a capacitor, it's a microcontroller. You can't change the rate, they're factory programmed. Nobody would use an R/C circuit to control timing anymore, it's inefficient and expensive compared to dropping in a 3 cent microcontroller.

I'm in the UK not Germany, and I already have 3 lights on steady mode. I want a flashing mode to attract attention.

Guess I'm out of luck then, oh well, will just buy another light

what IJM said - they're not really hackable, unless you really dig deep.

IMO, fast strobe (10-20Hz) is best. slow strobe (<2Hz) is worst. the absolute worst strobe modes allow the light to be off for 300-500mS, long enough for someone at an intersection to look directly towards you, and not see you or your light. fast-strobes demand attention.

of course, one has to consider light output and ambient light, and how that affects other road users. at night i wouldn't use a 1000lm strobe, but at 200lm i'd only use it on strobe.
