Need the brightest stuff out there.

I have the Cygolite Expillion 700 and Turbo Xtra 740. Both lights are amazing (the turbo being a lot better though). I wouldn't get anything by Magicshine. Cheap Chinese crap. Support an American company (Cygolite/Dinotte).

So what's special about that unit to which you refer?? Though it's specs look good and bright.

What type of budget do you have?

Don't matter.; Just want a brightest one.

Buy from Cygolite or Dinotte. Anyone know of any other American/European made stuff? Lupine (Germany) is a good one too. Is Niterider made in the USA?

All I'm saying is that if budget is of no concern, don't buy Chinese crap (Magicshine/cheapo flashlights). The more people who buy USA/Euro made stuff the better.

I believe Niterider is US Made. I like my NR Lumina 650 (or whatever it's called). Really like my NR Solas too - liked 'em so much I go two, one for each seat stay. The buy-American issue is one of the reasons I went with NR.

I have NiteRider MiNewt 600(https://www.google.com/#hl=en&tbo=d&...w=1600&bih=799). I has helped tremendously, when I got caught in the dark. NiteRider stopped making that model. They replaced that one in their product line with, the Lumina 650(http://www.niterider.com/lumina-650-2013/).

The MiNewt 600 is still available, just not from NiteRider any more. That is why I did the Google search for you. The Lumina 650 looks just like it. If you want even brighter possibilities, NiteRider has headlights that go up to 3600 lumens. I have no idea why a cyclist would need 3600 lumens. I have the MiNewt 600 and I get motorists' honking at me, about how bright it is.

NiteRider is 'American made'.

I'm about to pull the trigger on a new light, too.

Looking at:

• Cygolite TridenX 1100
• Dinotte 1200L+
• NiteRider Pro 1800

I just can't decide!

I'd love to get the Niterider 3600, not only is it insanely bright, but it comes with software to customize the output. Sadly I don't have $700 for a light.

If you're wanting the brightest stuff, then why did you even include a Maglite? Go for a Big Bang! :thumb:

BD is having a sale on NiteRider at the moment: NiteRider 1800 Race, $222. Says it expires 12/12, but I can still put it in my shopping cart.

Unit? That link detailed 8 different lights and as per information on the website - the company is a direct marketing outfit located in Nanjing, China. Did that link take you someplace it didn't take me?

Just curious - how do you feel about the 1.5-hour run time of those Niteriders? I have a new Serfas TL60 tail light with a 2-hour run time and twice now it hasn't lasted long enough to get me back home because performance is even less in cold weather. Personally I thought the idea of a bike was to let you go places too far away to be practical to walk and IMO a half hour range (you need to go out and back) doesn't cut it.

Upgrading my mini maglite to a Terralux led was great. Excellent. But upgrading my 3-D cell Maglite to the appropriate Terralux led was a disappointment. 8(

Okay, the Turbo Xtra 740 you say is brighter. Any other reason that it's better? What are their performance differences? FWIW there's a Turbo 800 on the market now.

EDIT: my budget is less that $175. I plan to ride a mile or two at night to friends' houses or to the store. So no distance stuff.

Yes, the Niterider has a max 1.5 hr runtime on 1800 lumens which isn't enough time IMO. On medium the light gets 3 hours, but the lumens are at a mere 700...

The Cygolite has the best runtime out of my three choices.

Any light I get I'll also pick up a spare battery and store it in my handlebar bag.

The Turbo is better because it has a better optics, is a more intense light than the Exp700; has better throw/flood; flash is much more intense; battery life because of its external battery pack is much longer.

Cygolite website has nothing about the Turbo800 btw. Not sure why there is a listing for it on Amazon.
