finished custom lighting project (pics)
I picked-up a NiteRider bicycle light and battery for a great price on ebay. The light gives off a lot of light, so I can go on night rides, but I hate how hard the button is to press (seriously, you have to put some weight into it to activate the switch), or how impossible it is to turn on while riding, so I came up with a solution.
I bought a Suzuki motorcycle kill switch on ebay for $6, and a proprietary NiteRider extension cable for $10. The kill switch has an on/off switch, and a momentary switch. I cut the ends off the extension cable and wired both of them to the switch. Thankfully, there was enough empty room inside the switch to house all the connections (I used liquid electrical tape to make the set-up relatively water-proof).
Now I can turn the light on and off with a flick of my thumb, or turn it on momentarily, or flash it on and off to signal other riders! Plus, I think it looks awesome on my handlebars.

Ha! What a clever and creative solution to your problem!? Well done. I love how you now have an "Engine RUN / STOP" button on your bike.
Did you have to modify the Suzuki switch housing to fit, or was it a direct fit on the Tern handlebars?

It was a direct fit, I got lucky. I figured for 6 bucks it was worth a shot. It was also lucky that there was so much empty space inside the switch to house everything. I was planning on housing where the wires were soldered together in the piece of rubber tubing, but this is a tighter/stronger set-up.
