Sanyo NH-T6

Does anyone have any experience with the Sanyo NH-T6 Dynapower generator? I've only found minimal information doing a web search. I've found some pictures but only of the unit by itself and not actually installed on a bicycle. I purchased a used one and would really like to give it a try.

I have only seen them on other people's bikes, but I think it's just a standard 6v generator

One problem with BB dynamos is that they are tricky to mount. Whether a particular dynamo will end up fitting a particular bike is an issue of chance. Union sold different versions to facilitate the fit. Another problem is that they require tires with a continuous thread along the center. The final problem is of potential slipping in the rain. I rode with a Soubitez BB dynamo and it was actually very good not only in the rain but also in snow. However, some people complained that the Sanyo was not that good with that respect. I actually happen to have a couple of them in storage but never mounted one.

I've heard the same thing about how these things work in the rain. I only had to pay $5 for this unit so I figure that I would just give it a try and see. If it doesn't work that well I'm not out that much.

I adapted one to my Windcheetah trike. It has worked reliably, though I don't have any experience with it in the rain or snow.

I have had three, from the first one that I got in 1982 to the last that I got earlier this year. I still have all three, in that I have not yet thrown them away. I did not have any trouble with mounting them. I did not have any trouble wiring them up. I never had any trouble with them slipping in the rain or the snow. But they have not treated me well. The trouble I've had, with all three, was in the bearing.

I rode a century on Saturday with the newest of these dynamos running LED's, and it was fine at first but gradually became noisier and noisier. I turned it off. But later on the weather got dark and wet, so I turned the thing back on, and for the last 40 miles of my ride it complained bitterly at any speed over 15 mph. It continued to put out power, and didn't seem to slow me down too much, but I hate my bike to be that loud. It was really annoying.

I'd love to hear from anyone who's overhauled one of these.
