An observation about lights
 

Late last summer, when I found myself riding in the dark, I bought myself two lights after doing some research, mostly here on the forum. What I bought was a Lezyne 450 lumen (claimed and real), and a cheaper Keygos Cree XM-L light (1200 claimed, but probably only about 500-600). These lights were deemed blindingly bright by everybody that commented, usually in a good way. I really stood out in the crowd, and was by far the brightest light out there.

I was riding tonight and was just noticing how many riders have lights that are just as bright now. These things have caught on. It is all for the good.

400+ lumen bike lights in the < $50 category have just sprouted like mushrooms on eBay in the last 6 months or so. I bought one and it's super impressive - brighter than the Magicshine I've had for 3 years now, about the same quality. Beam pattern is more spotty but a replacement lens fixes that for another $6.

Where do you find these Lenses? I'm Really interested in being able to adjust beam pattern!

That's the place I bought from though I did it through eBay. Comes from Action LED Lights either way.

You're welcome. The bike path I ride on has skunks by it in the summer, and the wide angle lens lets me see them in time to avoid them.

I'm seeing more and more of them but they haven't exactly caught on like wildfire. They really are totally blinding after dark, not necessarily in a good way. On the bike path or MUP they are downright disrespectful. If you're duking it out on the road after dark I think they're fine. I look forward to bike headlights that employ a cutoff shield like in automobiles.

Most dynamo powered lights follow the German law and have a very defined pattern that won't shine in oncoming eyes, if they're aligned correctly. These Chinese battery powered ones do not.
