Anyone using something to live track their rides. If so please explain. My wife wants to know I'm alright while out for long rides. Or maybe she just don't trust me. :-0

Whatever you get (if anything), install on both your phones. You want to know that she's safe when she's out too, right?

Glympse. You can send whoever you want to track you a glympse (with is basically a url) and will show a live feed from your phone. It's a free app!

Glympse is good but my GF complained about how frequently the website updated (or didn't update) during a ride. I now use the Garmin live tracker with my Edge 510 which seems to work much better.

I use a spot tracker. Not dependent on cell coverage. Only works when it can see the sky to talk to a satellite. Expensive. $250 first year, $150 thereafter. Pay more and it updates your position on facebook/text message. Only updates every 10 minutes. Can push a button and emergency services are notified of your location. It has worked out pretty well for me. Some people give it less-than-stellar reviews.

Thanks for the replies. I have a cycling friend who has the new 810 and he set it up for me to live track his ride home today from about 75 miles. About 2 hrs into his ride, 30 or so miles, my pc got the message, "no signal no service". Don't know what happened. It had been froze for a couple hrs and I could only think of bad things for him so I worried more than if I had not been tracking.

I also recommend Glympse. I frequently ride alone and during those times always use it. My wife doesn't know the roads I cycle and couldn't find me without it.

My family uses an app called Life360. It updates every 15 min and they can request an update if it's not recent enough for their own special selves. My wife just likes to know I'm still moving when I go out on long solo rides. I also like knowing where my kid's phones are, so it's handy.

I've been using Glympse but it's been erratic as a few others have mentioned. I don't know if this was my phone/reception or what. I just got a new phone and expect to try it out today. It's free, so give it a shot and see how it works.

If both parties are using an iPhone and you only want location info, you could use the no-cost Apple "Find Friends" app.

Question though, is anyone using these along with Endomondo or other tracking apps?
I use Endomondo for logging of my rides but it does not have live tracking for the wife to make sure I am ok

Seema there are alot of us that have significant others who want to be sure we are alright while out on long rides. My friend rode 8 miles with 8000 ft of climbing in 8hrs 41 min. Did not know the 510 would do tracking. How does it compare with the 810, performance and cost wise?

I did a century today with the edge 510 live tracking on and it worked great. Got a text of encouragement from a friend who was watching with 5 miles to go.

I was impressed it worked for over 6 hours straight.

A friend of mine uses his iPhone and Runkeeper. I think you have to be an "elite" runkeeper member to do it though, so it costs a yearly fee.

Any idea if Glympse will cause issues with other tracker apps like Mapmyride?

I've done 30+ rides with my Garmin 510 using the live track feature. Zero issues, works like it should, lots of 50+ mile rides and 3 century's. My wife loves the security it gives her knowing I'm still breathing and rolling along.

For not quite a year now I've been using GreenAlp's "Real Time GPS Tracker" app. It's free and easy to use. What I like about it is that I can set the update interval to it doesn't drain my battery. For my daily commute, I have it set to update my location every 2 minutes, so it only uses the GPS for a few seconds every time minutes, barely touches the battery. At the beginning of May I did a three day, 370 mile tour and set it to update every twenty minutes, worked out perfectly.

Yup, the Garmin Live Track works great. Doesn't put too much of a toll on the phone battery or the Garmin device.

I use ham radio to track me. I have an APRS tracker mounted under my rack. And, it updates the system as frequently as the tracker pings the network. Wifey gets to see it here: http://aprs.fi/#!lat=43.01090&lng=-78.95740

Guessing that either the two devices were not paired via Bluetooth for a while or the there was no 3G/4G connection for the phone.

That's exactly what happened. He was in the mountains and lost signal to cell tower. Since then it has been working flawlessly. For the android, can it be seet to update every 60 sec.?
