Phone (iPhone) mount
Hey all,
Looking to mount my iPhone on my bars / stem somewhere so that I don't have to replace my broken cyclocomputer - I'd rather just use an app on my phone, plus it's handy to be able to see the screen without stopping (maps/GPS directions are super useful when on-the-move. I've seen a few options, but am just uncomfortable with the idea of an expensive phone "loosely" clamped to my bars - though I ride mostly on streets, it's still a bumpy ride so the safety and strength of the connection/mount is paramount. Other considerations are water resistance, if not water proof - just to prevent issues in a sudden downpour, or my hog-sweat messing anything up. |
Glad you posted this question - can't wait to hear what others have to say.

Lifeproof case and bike mount is the best answer IMHO. I've had the case on the 4 and 5 and is by the far the most ruggest case out there. Also unlike everyother case it is water proof. I have taken mine for a swim more than once! So the case will withstand weather. The bike mount is like all their case accesories it has a locking latch to make it secure. On top of all this the case isn't bulky like so many (Otterbox).

Ditto. Lifeproof. The best :)

Thanks for the input, guys - I'll take a look into the Lifeproof too :)

I'm shopping too.
I have one friend that swears by his Quadlock. He crashed his mountain bike really bad a few months ago, wrecked the front wheel, and got banged up himself as well. He said when he walked over to get his bike after the crash the Quadlock was still holding the phone securely. And have another friend that swears the Topeak mount is the best out there. (But he didn't crash his bike yet so don't know the results of what that would be) I'm leaning towards the Quadlock but holding off because of the price. |
I bought an otterbox defender for my iphone and it came with a belt clip which I'd normally throw straight in the trash. Instead, I zip tied it to my stem. It's the lowest profile mount and, in my opinion, the most secure as it's made specifically for the defender. I've clocked it a few times and my phone is always very secure. I can even use it as a speakerphone while riding quiet roads. Pretty awesome setup for sure.

Quadlock really makes the best stem mount. I have them on all my bikes and just love them. Extremely solid mount.
