People say Google maps, but while it dose have navigation for bikes it dose not have turn by turn navigation with my location being showed following he route, somwthing simple to see and easy to use on the bike to naviagtw with.

So what is the best app out there for this. I want something like Google maps car navigation feature which is good.

I have a desire S in case ur wondering, I am hopefully gonna update the OS to ICS, I prefers free apps but a small one off fee is not an issue, PS I'm in the UK

Cheer thx in advance.

Hard to believe you didn't see all the threads that already cover this question, that said: The "Cue Sheet" app ( available on Google play; pro edition ~$4 ) allows the navigation of a planned route and will display your position on the map as it does so. The paid pro version also gives you voice prompts for each turn. The app is designed to work with the free mapping sites such as "RidewithGPS". While it's not perfect ( what is ? ) it works pretty good. Sometimes takes the map a moment or two to catch up with your position on the map but the turn cues are always "before" the turns so at least you get a warning before the turn ( as well as at the turn ). There is also a written cue sheet for each route so if the app freezes and you have to restart the app you advance the route to your last position using the cue sheet and you then are back on track. As long as you have cell coverage you should have no problems.

Being from the U.K. you might be more interested in the OsmAnd app.
Supposedly this gives you a downloadable map that can be used off-line. This allows you to ride a route without worry of losing cell coverage to update your map. Lets you plan routes and gives voice prompts and should also display your position on a map. Not sure how it compares to "Cue Sheet" as I haven't tried it. At some point I'll have to give it a try myself if I start planning rides in areas that don't have many cell towers.

( ** about "Cue Sheet"...an updated version will soon be available that will allow the inclusion of "Points of interest" ( POI ). That will be a nice addition to the already very usable app. )

Oh lol, just been looking into the Google maps, and seen its surposadly been realised so was like why don't I get it when I use maps daily, and just realised that nethier my phone or my tablet have been doing auto update so just updated them both and found I do now have it ROFL, its got a nice new UI and its really really good, I can now go for longer rides and not have to worry about not knowing how to get some were as some!

All I need bow is to order some more battery's for my phone so I can be out all day using both strava and maps/ playing music while I ride whoop!

And I need to get a phone holder for the bike but whoohoo!

Still gonna check out those apps and see how they compete.
