Ascent IO computer not working

My wife's had no problem with her Ascent IO (only about a year old) until about 2 weeks ago, when it started working only for a few seconds when she'd start riding. We assumed it was batteries, but two different new batteries haven't helped. The problem seems to be the transmitter. As I rotate the wheel, the green LED lights each time the magnet passes for about the first 10 rotations, and then it stops lighting up. If I wait a few moments, I can get the same thing to happen again. The computer kicks into action during those 10 rotations, then of course shuts down. We've played with the adjustments, and it's clearly not a proximity or alignment issue. Has it crapped out, should we get a couple more new batteries to try, or . . . ?

This seems pretty obvious, but this would explain all the symptons exactly...have you replaced the 2032 battery in the transmitter? It should need it after a year or so.

Yeah, both batteries have been replaced, and I've checked the contacts and so on. It's such an inexpensive piece of equipment, we're tempted to just get a new one.
