Edelux, 2nd generation

I have a Schmidt Edelux light on my bike (this is a dynamo-powered light made in Germany).

Oh, man, what a great light it is.

I read recently that Schmidt was coming out with a new version, Edelux 2.

Has anyone given the second-generation light a ride?

Maybe I shouldn't ask ... I don't need any more bike gear!

The closest to a resource that I can point you to is here -
headlight beams from Peter White Cycles

Search for the title "Schmidt Edelux II prototype" and you should see it.

It appears to have a somewhat more even beam pattern, and a wider beam that lights up the road to the sides more.

It's based on the B&M cyo.. I effectively did the same upgrade going from a cyo to cyo premium. It a worthwhile bump in brightness and beam spread ( at the cyo price point anyway).

I have edelux I and its fine, but Schmidt does keep pushing the development.

I have a house in town , so that is more than enough ..

does make it hard to resell the E6 primary and secondary pair I got a few years earlier .

secondary never got used , not that fast.. I dont fly down Mountain Passes at Night.

B&M has a much better headlight now too .. top of the line has a USB jack

my Brompton got their compact Eyc T..

That photo suggests that the beam has been rendered much wider.

I wonder if Schmidty amped-up the light itself — is it brighter and wider, or just wider?

I don't need a beam that wide — at least, not worth considering an upgrade to get it.

One thing I like about the Edelux, compared to battery lights I've used, is that the light is contained — it shines on the road, not off the road, in the bushes or up in the trees.

Here's a youtube video I ran across where someone compared the Ixon IQ to the Ixon IQ Premium (these are the battery versions of the lights with the same optics, etc - so the Ixon IQ would be the same as the old Cyo, and the Ixon IQ Premium should be the same as the new Cyo Premium) -

The Cyo premium looks nice for the price. The Luxos U on the other hand makes me drool. Too bad I don't have an unlimited budget. Not that I'm ready to go Dyno yet but I am looking the stuff over to see whats doable price wise and still provide an output / beam pattern robust enough to satisfy my lust for light.
