Alternate mounting for MS type light head?
Long story short, I'm wondering how one would continue to use one of these lights should anything happen to the little tabs/hooks used with o-rings to mount?
Reason why I ask is that the other day my o-ring snapped while bringing the bike out of the garage and the light head fell into my hand. If it had snapped while riding at speed... |
try zip ties?
|
I don't use the O-ring at all. Like the previous poster, I use zip-ties. For some reason people seem less likely to steal stuff off the bike if it is zip-tied on.
|
I'm frustrated by o-rings, too. Not durable or reliable enough. When I carry my bike through a tight spot, sometimes something snags on the o-ring that keeps my Garmin mounted. That thing is too expensive to lose. I was thinking of twisting wire together and then binding it with -- what? A wire nut? Something else? I'll try zip ties, but for the Garmin mount, they'll need to be very small.

And why are they called o-rings? Isn't that redundant? I'll bet you anything that there will never be something called an H-ring.

Jared, I'd like to buy a "ring." That'll be $5,000. |

You can buy all the stuff I mentioned through ActionLED. They also sell nice alternative mounting solutions ( bars and helmet ) for the MS/MS clone type lamps as well. It you don't like the O-ring mounts the lamp can easily be modded with one of the ActionLED mounts. Personally, I have no problems using the O-rings mounts but with heavier lamps the O-ring mounts simply can't provide the tension needed ( without additional modding ) to keep the lamp in place. |

I'm using Marwi mounts with MS adapters from LED Bike light parts

E.g. there are D-rings and X-rings: http://bikeforums.net/attachment.php...hmentid=399580 http://bikeforums.net/attachment.php...hmentid=399581 -- Ragnar |

So any thoughts on my idea of using wire instead of rubber bands?
