OPINIONS: Cycling electricity generator?
Hi guys,
I am a big time biker all types of terrain. Recently I have been biking around the city more often than others. Since bike is like my car, I was wondering what you guys think of: a generator (attached to the front or back wheel) that has an a cable into a power bank (attached to the handle bars) that can charge electronic devices and has a flashlight as well. The purpose would be to generate energy by moving the wheels and power gets stored into the power bank and use it however you'd like.
I have seen a lot of different inventions regarding bikes, like the revo lights on kickstarter. Was wondering if this sort of idea would actually stick...I am personally willing to pay up to $100 on such technology to charge on the go.
Just trying to open discussion and see what you guys think!
Thanks for your time!

Watch 'Soylent Green' ?, Edward G Robinson's scene pedaling the stationary bike to keep the room lights lit is a bit of a theatrical stretch of real physics.
Soylent Green (1973) - IMDb
there are USB trickle chargers driven off the turning front wheel with a hub dynamo, and a AC to DC , converter and voltage regulator + buffer capacitors
but you have to Ante in a lot more than 1 Benjamin to get in that Game.
this kind of topic has its own sector https://www.bikeforums.net/electronics-lighting-gadgets/

Output is pretty good, but its a dynamo driven and even with capacitors to even out the voltage you still get fluctuations. If you really want a clean output you should run the usb regulator to a bank of aa or liion batteries then pull the power from those.

I like the idea of a power bank. Its safe and more reassurance to getting the most out of the charging energy from the dynamo/generator.
I've yet to see one of these that is actually worth buying...I am still looking though. My thoughts now is that maybe there isn't one out there in the marketplace?

apocryphal sobriquet
There was a post here recently where someone was using a power bank designed for a solar charger that would allow a trickle charge from the dynamo hub while it was powering other units via USB. It might be useful for some ideas. I'll see if I can find it...
Edit: I think this might be the thread I had in mind
