Road cycling with iPhone 6 Plus

I'm curious to know if you guys find it too big and clunky to mount onto your bikes? Would like to see some pictures. I have an iPhone 6 Plus that I'd like to use when riding and plan on getting the QuadLock bike mount kit.

Let me know how it's working out for you guys who have this combination or something similar.

Also do you know of any great apps with nice UI for cycling? Right now I currently use cyclemeter and strava, but is there anything better thats optimized for the 6 Plus?

I had a Galaxy Note that is the same size and it worked fine. Can't imagine the 6+ being any different. We have some bags that wrap around the stem of our handlebars that have a clear zip pouch on top that your phone can go into. I use this on my current phone, but the pouch is rated for the 5.5 inch screens.

Whatever mount you get, be sure it is waterproof. I almost ruined an iPhone 4 in a very light rain. It stopped working but started working again a week or so after I bought a 5.

Just bend your phone around the handlebars... it's an iphone feature, take advantage.

How crash survivable are these phone mount setups? My thinking has always been that a Garmon is pretty durable and if it does break in a crash, it is vastly less expensive than replacing many of the popular smartphones.

I would guess pretty good chance of survival. If you have a case/mount, a case is very effective at protection. The worst I could see is a shattered glass, easily repaired.

For the cost of a mid level garmin, you can repair the glass a few times, too.

Troll? Please explain. I had questions and concerns regarding a bicycle mount. How is that trolling? That word is being overused here.

Yes I agree. This is a legitimate question. There are numerous cycling applications for the iPhone and yes the iPhone 6 is somewhat large. With the proper mount, it would be an excellent choice for cycling applications -- plus many power and other sensors now support BlueTooth. The only drawback of the iPhone is power consumption. An auxiliary battery can solve that problem.

Yeah not sure why a guy who wants a blingy bike is willing to put a 6" phone on his bars when there are plenty of "blingy" computers and computer mounts available:

Maybe because the screen on the iPhone 6 Plus is much larger and it can do so much more than what those other "blingy" devices can do all from one device. Since I never leave my phone at home when I'm out and about. If you're not sure, no need to be a ****** about it. Everyone has different needs/wants. So many snobs on here. If you can't help or can't give a civilized answer, why bother responding? Just goes to show how much of a ****** some people on here can be.

Well you are mainly concerned about the way your bike looks and I was just saying a cycling specific computer, such as a Garmin 1000 with a K-Edge mount, will complete that look.

I will say that I recently got a 6 Plus and I can't get it to fit into a snack size Ziploc like I did with my 5s (to carry in my pocket). #firstworldproblem .

ziplock freezer bags are slightly larger, and the thicker material makes them more reusable.

Oh, so it's not just boutique lights you need to look cool, you need iPhones to make you look cool too. Interesting. Guess I'm dumb to keep my phone in my pocket and only look at it if I'm lost or need to make a phone call.

Oh, so it's not just money you need to look cool. You also need to carry a phone and wear clothes with pockets to look cool too. Interesting. Guess I'm dumb to not judge people based on their bicycle accessories.

I just ordered the new rokform aluminum iPhone 6 mountable case for mine. I've been rocking the rokform stem mount for my last two iPhones and I've never broken my phones. The phones have never come lose from the mount and the cases look modern and sleek. They have them for your 6S.

Actually I landed on this thread because I was reading one of his other threads. His questions seem to be consistent with a newb, but are generally not indicative of someone who is pretentious or otherwise easy to negatively judge. You, however...

I'm waiting for the iPhone 6 Plus bike kit from Quadlock actually.

zymphad, there's a valid reason why I want a bike mount, obviously is to use cycling apps to monitor my stats while I ride, tell me how am I suppose to do that when the phone is in my pocket. It's called convenience.

You call other people trolls and all you seem to do is harass people on here with your idiotic remarks. I hate people who don't have anything to contribute but waste time by responding with childish nonsense. Grow up.

Thanks Wilfred, I appreciate that.
