Is there an App which works as a way point?

If you don't have a garmin to plot the trip, and you are going to a race/event how do you remember routes and turns?
Is there an app that you can use as a waypoint to be used in an event because i have tried using MapMyRide
and after i made the route it did not tell me where to go unless i look at the screen on my phone which would
be dangerous while cycling unless i stop which i do not want to do.

Thanks in advance :D

Most smartphone mapping/navigation software will do this to a point. If you must follow a specific route you have to create enough points on the map so that the route created will follow it correctly, then you will get turn-by-turn instructions (maybe even voice prompts). Some limitations are that Navigation apps assume you are going from point A to point B or are making a single loop so multi-lap routes just won't work after the first circuit. Most of the sport routing apps eliminate the voice prompting. Another limitation is that if routes cross over themselves or travel the same road more than oonce, it might confuse the app.

Are you concerned about riding TO the event or riding DURING the event?

Aren't most race routes marked? Or do you plan soon being so far out in front you can't follow somebody else? :D

I got lost once on a ride and programmed in the destination on google maps and stuck my bluetooth in my ear and off I went. It tells you when to turn. I'm sure you can cobble something up.

You can create most routes in advance with ridewithgps: Map Bike Rides with Elevation Profiles, Analyze Cycling Performance, Train Better. Ride With GPS, then download it in a format that your device understands. For example, I create a route, download it in GPX format onto my phone then import it as a route into Cyclemeter on the iPhone. Then, when I'm riding I select that route in Cyclemeter and I'm able to see the path I need to follow on the map in Cyclemeter.

Is that what you wanted to do?

Thanks for the info :D

So i have to make a route and put it in GPX format and then import to the app that i use? I'll try that now.

Thanks again :)

Depends on the software. BikewithGPS.com can download in a variety of formats. That's just one way to do it, there are others but this one lets you specify bike trails/paths, free form through countryside etc... It also generates topological profiles (i.e. climb/descent with grades).
