Garmin 800 Died. Warranty Experience?
It worked fine last weekend. After my ride, I hooked it up to my computer, uploaded my data, and let it sit. I unplugged it yesterday, and nothing. It won't power up at all. I plugged it into the wall charger with the same result. Anything else to try? I contacted Garmin yesterday to check on a return (refurb unit, still under warranty). Anyone have Garmin warranty experience?

As for Garmin warranty experience, yes, they honor their warranties. You need to contact them via email or phone, try things they suggest, and if none of them work, get and RMA, send it in and get a refurbished replacement unit. The refurbished unit is indistinguishable from new.

Did you try resetting it? I have a 510 and occasionally it will not turn on. It resets by holding down the on/off button for about10 seconds, then it comes on.

I've got a 510 as well and I nuked the load by using Windows to format the drive. I had to redo the settings but so far it is behaving much better. If it won't even power up I'm not sure this much help.

Thanks for the replies all. I'll wait to hear back from Garmin and update with the response.

My faithful 605 finally died after 7 Years, they no longer refurbish the 605 but Garmin is shipping me a refurbished 705 for $60.00. That is after they receive my core unit.

I'm not sure what happened, but it's working again. I received an email from Garmin, and went through the steps suggested. The unit didn't power up, so out of desperation, I tried plugging it into the wall outlet again. Bingo! The unit came on, indicating 0% battery and charging. I don't know whether the reset procedure worked even with no battery charge, or it was just one of those electrical gremlins, but I'm glad to have power again. Here is the message I received from Garmin for future reference:
Thank you for contacting Garmin International.
I will be happy to help you with your edge 800. I am sorry to hear that is not powering on. Please try the following:
Thank you for contacting Garmin International.
I will be happy to help you with your edge 800. I am sorry to hear that is not powering on. Please try the following:
- Please try a soft reset on the edge. Sometimes when the battery dies it will require a jump start. To do the soft reset please press and hold the power button down for about 30-45 seconds. The edge should power on.
- If that does not work then we will recommend you try a master reset. There are a few instances in which it may be necessary to perform a master reset on the Edge 800. A master reset should be performed if the Edge is:
- Not functioning properly
- Needing to be restored to factory default settings*
- Not receiving a satellite signal
- To bring up language selection prompt if incorrect language text is showing
- Unable to pair up accessories, such as the heart rate monitor or speed/cadence sensor
To perform the master reset:
- Power device off
- Press and hold Lap/Reset and Start/Stop
- Power device on while still holding both buttons
- Continue holding buttons when the Garmin "splash" screen appears
- Release buttons when Garmin "splash" screen disappears
*A User Data Clear can be performed in order to remove personal settings without removing history.
To perform the User Data Clear:
- Power device off
- Touch and hold finger in top-left corner of display
- Power device on while still maintaining pressure on display
- Release display when the Reset device settings to factory default? message appears
- Touch Yes

That's a killer deal. I've been using a 705 since the came out and personally have no need or desire for a newer model. The one I have now was an exchange refurb from Garmin and they charged me $110.

Google for reset option. There is 2 of them. One wipes 3 very thing off and turns it back on again, but safer one wakes the unit up with all the data intact.
Spried second option many, many times, and it luckily works each and every time.
