DesignShine 500 Tail Light

I installed two DesignShine 500 tail lights, one on my bike and one on my wife's bike and wow what a great light. I also have two Hot Shot tail lights on the seat stays of both bikes one on the left and one on the right and the DesignShine 500 just over powers both of the Hot Shot lights.

There is no way a driver of a vehicle can say they did not see you with the DesignShine 500 on the bike. The light is also very visible at an angle as well. Super light and worth every penny that they cost. My life and my wife's life is worth way more than the 270 dollars each light cost us. My wife was well between 3/10's to 4/10's of a mile in front of me and the DesignShine light was very visible.

No more cheap 30 to 70 dollar lights for us.

Comparing a Hot Shot to a DS500 is like comparing a candle to a bonfire.

I'm very happy with mine as well. I still keep looking at taillights at the bike shops though. It's a disease.

... but facing charges by the DA, in court, after they hit you, you Know that is what they will say.

It's more a function of how people process visual stimuli than of how visible something is. I wish I bookmarked it, but there was a visual simulation on the web that showed that when there are too many things going on, your eyes go blind to some of them. Without driver training to look for cyclists, we are invisible to drivers. Safety devices compensate for that only to a degree, but there is nothing we can use that will guarantee being seen. This is a very important point for all of us to ponder. So much so that I will repeat it. Without driver training to look for cyclists, we are invisible to drivers. Safety devices compensate for that only to a degree, but there is nothing we can use that will guarantee being seen.

This light does not blind traffic coming up from behind in the day time. I rode behind my wife and it was no problem and she rode behind me and had no issues. What this light does is make you visible. I think it is funny how so many will spend thousands of dollars on a bike and rims but when it comes to a safety item like this light all of the sudden $270.00 dollars is to much money to spend. As for me and my wife we will spend the money on the lights and are very happy with them.

Face it if you get hit the driver of the vehicle if at fault will 9 times out of 10 try to come up with some excuse no matter what while pretty much only 1 out of 10 will admit they made a mistake and hit you. But what you take out of the equation when the police start investigating is how well you could be seen and this light puts that issue to rest. A teenager was hit and killed pre dawn on his bike riding it to school by a deputy sheriff where I live no to long ago and the city police department who handled the death investigation stated that even through the bike had a rear light they said it was not adequate. The deputy was found to have been using his in car computer while driving when he struck and killed the teenager. All the deputy got was a normal traffic citation for careless driving which is a traffic infraction in the state of Florida.

The departments involved were the Lee County Sheriff's department and the Cape Coral police department. Clearly the deputy was driving while distracted by using his department issued computer while driving which I feel should have lead to possible manslaughter charges.

FIFY.

My DS500 certainly makes the Dinotte 140 it replaced seem very anemic, which was completely expected since it's output of 830 lumens is nearly 7 times that of the D140 (120 lumens).
