Need 2 bikes in Belgium
My with and I are flying into Brussels for 2 weeks of bike camping in late June. We are going to try and buy 2 used bikes when we get there and sell them in Amsterdam when we fly home. Does this sound like it will work? Do you have any suggestions on how to find 2 good used bikes set up for touring for sale? Any other suggestions on camp grounds of routes would also be great. Cheers scott

A late reply, but maybe you can search on https://www.kapaza.be/Fietsen_en_accessoires/ for cheap secondhand bikes.

Scorcher, I am planning a similar trip but I am getting around on the trains. That site that you linked, is that an auction site? I ask because I found this---- https://www.kapaza.be/Fietsen_en_acce...dy_Merckx.html ----but I cannot believe that it is only 125 Euros.
If bikes that nice are that cheap, I better take along a couple of extra suitcases!
gah! I have to stop looking at that site! https://www.kapaza.be/Fietsen_en_acce...dy_Merckx.html

Yes, it is an auction site.
And Eddy Merckx is also a Belgian guy, so lots of Merckx bikes around here...

Buying a bike trough an auction site might get you a good deal but is probably difficult from abroad. Plan to spend 1 or 2 days in Brussels (or better a smaller city with more bicycling activity like Gent/Antwerpen/Leuven) and to get a rental car (with GPS!) to visit a few places. I recently needed a new bike quick (crashed the old one) and was amazed by what people have sitting in the garage! I was able to get a very good deal after one evening of surfing Kapaza, sending emails, calling. Knowing a bit of Dutch might help.
You could try contacting the nice people at https://www.recyclo.org and https://www.velodroom.net if you insist on finding something in Brussels.
When you buy something, make sure you have a document proving it (a handwritten, dated document with the identity and signature of the previous owner should do). It will be much easier selling the bike when in Amsterdam that way.
You can contact me if you need more info and/or help, I'm in Ghent.
